Ricky Hatton opens up on body transformation after losing more than two stone in seven weeks

Former boxing world champion Ricky Hatton has opened up on his latest weight loss after losing over two stone in seven weeks.

The now-43-year-old is taking part in an exhibition bout against Antonio Barrera at the Manchester Arena in July, an idea that originated from Mike Tyson and Joy Jones Jr’s fight in November 2020.

According to The Telegraph, he admitted that taunting from doubters motivated him to lose the weight, and now he’s fired up to finish the job and silence the mockers once and for all.

Hatton said: ‘When I told people I’m doing the exhibition bout in July, they said “absolutely no chance, you’re never out of the pub, look at the size of you, you’ll never do that”.

‘If you tell Ricky Hatton I can’t do something I’ll do it. I’m already seeing this as a complete life change.’

Hatton, who was once known as ‘Ricky Fatton’ for his weight increases between fights, has had well-documented issues with weight and depression, which reportedly led to several attempts to end his own life.

But he has joined up with heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury in recent times – who has also been open about his mental health issues – and is once again coming out on the right side of the battle.

‘It’s about exercise and diet, knowing to eat the right things, when to eat the right things,’ the Mancunian said.

‘I used to be in the pub a few nights a week. Now I’m not drinking, I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine over the last couple of weeks in the house.’

‘I was 14 [stone] six and I’m 12 two now, I’ve lost that in seven weeks which is incredible, I don’t think I did that when I was fighting but I was always good at losing the weight.

He deliberately didn’t post on social media for the first five weeks of his camp, and the images that surfaced afterwards left fans stunned.

The fight, which will take place in Hatton’s home town, is his first since 2012.

He had an illustrious career, which featured 43 straight wins as a professional before two losses in four fights to Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao.

He is a four-time world champion, and preparation is now well underway ahead of his latest test.
