[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] I’ve got two lots of The Body Shop newness today – first up is the limited edition Bluebell range which is very far from my preconceptions. I think I imagined something a little fusty, akin to the homemade ‘rosewater’ we used to make as children, or even something old-fashioned or Yardley-esq. However, Bluebell turns out to be a delight and if I had blind tested it, I would have put it as a British brand we all know and love that’s far, far more expensive.
The Bluebell fragrance is very green with hints of sweeter, floral notes. It’s managed to capture that crushed vegetation smell that the woodland floor throws up which is green, wet and fresh. It’s not woody so much to my nose, but there is bamboo in the mix as well as bottom notes of cashmere and water musk. The floral aspect is provided by bergamot, wild hyacinth and water jasmine which I’ve just Googled because I’ve never heard of it.
Some time later…..Soooo, it turns out that water jasmine is a tropical tree species, native to China and Malaysia and it can grow to 20 feet tall. It has fragrant, white flowers and is a popular tree in bonsai culture. Now we know! There’s also a plum note which is pleasant. It’s interesting that in the press release, the brand makes reference to ‘looking to the future, Bluebell represents a budding new era that honours nostalgia and newness’. Hmmm, I wonder what that means. There’s a shower cream, a hand cream, a fragrance mist and a butter melt. I’ve used the body butter melt – gorgeous, soft and lightly scented skin afterwards – and the fragrance mist and truly, they’re very pleasant indeed. The longevity isn’t amazing – nor awful – but if you want something that will take you to the spring countryside immediately, for £12 HERE, the fragrance mist is it. If it wasn’t so chilly, I’d be tempted to take a walk.
