Simone Ashley reveals she learned how to tattoo during pandemic from prison inmate making videos

Simone Ashley revealed that she learned how to tattoo herself during the pandemic by watching an inmate’s videos during a visit Monday on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.

‘I was in LA over lockdown in 2020 and I did all the regular stuff, like making banana bread, tie-dying, all of that kind of stuff,’ said the 26-year-old British actress who stars in the Netflix series  Bridgerton.

‘I thought it would be a good idea to get my own tattoo pen with the needle,’ she added.

Jimmy, 54, asked her where she got it and she said bought it online and that it was surprisingly easy.

‘I didn’t need an ID,’ Simone said. ‘I didn’t need anything. I just clicked a button.’

Simone said she then searched online on how to do tattoos at home.

‘I found this video and it was like, oh, I can use this deodorant stick, like as a chemical reaction on the transfer paper and all of the stuff,’ Simone said. ‘And then it started getting a bit deep and I was like, ”Oh, this guy’s using some really interesting stuff.” And then I looked at the username and it was called prisontattoo.com. I looked at his videos and was like wow ”’there is an inmate making videos in prison”.’

‘This is a fab idea and then I did it,’ Simone said. ‘I’ve tattooed myself and cast-mates that I’ve worked with before,’

‘You did it prison style to yourself,’ Jimmy said.

Jimmy asked her where it was and she showed him her ankle and told him it was a sphinx tattoo.

Jimmy said he thought it was a dog and told her to keep practicing.

‘This is a great skill, by the way, if you ever do wind up in prison,’ Jimmy said.

‘I’m doing your tattoo after the show, right,’ Simone said.

‘You know I have no tattoos but if I ever get one I’m going to call you,’ Jimmy said.

Jimmy asked her how she found out she was going to be the female lead on Bridgerton.

‘I was on a movie at the time and I was in my trailer and I got a call saying, ”It’s kind of a secret. You can’t tell anyone, but you got the role”,’ she said.

‘I get a knock on my trailer calling me to set so I put my phone down, put it on flight mode because it starts blowing up a bit, and then I go to set and I’m not allowed to tell anyone,’ she added.

‘Season one had just come out and everyone was kind of talking about it in the cast ”Oh we watched Bridgeton season one on the weekend. I wonder what’s happening in season two.;’ And I kind of had to just sit there,’ Simone said.

Jimmy asked her if she felt that her life had changed in a minute since the show came out.

‘What was really exciting was I’m staying at a hotel in LA and I’m checking in and they’re like ”your room is going to be ready in about 15 minutes but it’s going to be worth it. We’re just sorting some things out when moving rooms but I think you’re going to really like it”,’ Simone said.

‘And then I get into the room. I open the window to my balcony and there’s this massive Bridgerton billboard literally right in front of me,’ Simone said.

Jimmy asked her if the hotel did it on purpose and she said she thought so. Jimmy then asked her if she went to any of the Oscar parties.

‘I went to Vanity Fair,’ Simone said. ‘It was wonderful and it’s super glamorous and obviously everyone’s there and everyone’s so lovely and having a good time.’

‘What was really funny that no one really talks about is like these Uber ports at these big events,’ Simone said. ‘If you don’t have a chauffeur or a car waiting for you, you just get an Uber. It’s super organized.’

Simone said that on one side of the street were fans and on the other side were ‘literally just a line of every single person you could think of just on their phones waiting for that Ubers.’

Jimmy asked her who she saw waiting for an Uber.

‘Billy Porter, Joe Jonas with Sophie Turner,’ Simone said.

Jimmy asked if they were really waiting for Ubers.

‘I think so or their service cars,’ Simone said.

Jimmy asked Simone if she liked being in the United States and she said yes that she has family in Ojai, California.

Simone told him that she grew up primarily in England and moved out of her home when she was quite young.

‘I think around 15, 17,’ Simone said.

Jimmy asked her if she just told her parents that she was going.

‘I guess so and they were super supportive,’ Simone said. I think it was a little bit of an intervention when I ended up in LA around 17, 18 .’

Jimmy said to go overseas as a teenager to become an actor that her parents must have been so upset and that she must have pestered them to let her go to LA to pursue acting.

‘I think I just went,’ Simone said.

‘You were right, I guess,’ Jimmy said.

‘Yeah,’ Simone agreed
