[unpaid/sample] I do like Shiro make up – everything is considered rather than a barrage of products. They don’t launch new products all that often and when they do, it’s purposeful (and expensive!).
So, there are six shades of the new Calendula Eye Shadow Liquid and four shades of the Calendula Cheek Liquid from this Japanese brand. I have Dusk Orange in eyes and Foggy Pink in cheeks. Starting with the Eye Shadow Liquid – it’s got a sparkle to it and the first thing I noticed is now not droppy it is. The formula uses water as the base along with calendula extracts (known for hydrating and soothing) so it feels immediately at home on the lid after a moment of coolness.
You may – depending on the oil level of your lids – need a primer (I didn’t use one) as an anchor but I didn’t find any unexpected problems. What you’ll find is that the colours are diffused and soft and the twinkling very evident (in a good way) – it’s a very pared back colour palette. It’s the same for cheeks, minus the sparkle – and I was so surprised how well Foggy Pink actually showed up on my skin because I had assumed it would hardly show at all. It’s oil based so blends beautifully and gives an understated, light hit hue.
The cheek colour also contains calendula. It’s a whisper on the skin – immediately comfortable. Remember with the eye liquid, it’s best not to overload – the sentiment is less rather than more .. it’s this whole ‘foggy’ thing again that I wrote about with Suqqu – a blur or nuance of colour.
You get a good idea of the colours in the swatch above although bear in mind that you’d blend the eye liquid out so that it won’t be as intense as you see here. In terms of application, I use a brush (just dab the doe’s foot on to the brush hairs) because I find it easier and less likely to over load. Once the shade dries you can repeat. I think this is particularly nice if you’re losing your lids a bit – just apply to the lid or lid line for colour and glint that will show every time you make an eye expression. The eye liquids are £34 each and the cheek liquids are the same price HERE. I’d also recommend the cheek liquids for older skin – there can be a bit of colour loss over the years and these are so subtle that they won’t look at all out of place on colour loss or naturally pale complexions.
