The iconic Pamela Anderson made her Met Gala debut tonight—and we finally have the answer to the pressing question of whether or not she hit the red-carpet bare-faced.
Dressed in a beige floor-length gown by Oscar de la Renta, Pandora jewels and oozing major Old Hollywood inspo, Anderson did, in fact, glow in soft-pink makeup.
The fresh-faced look was courtesy of Pat McGrath, with hairstylist Orlando Pita creating Anderson’s feather-focused updo. (According to Pita, the inspiration for her hair was “light and ethereal incorporating feathers and jewels.”)
The makeup moment was a slight shift for Anderson who, at recent red carpets, appearances and photo shoots, opted to skip the makeup.
“Something just came over me,” Anderson shared during Paris Fashion Week back in October. “I don’t need a stylist…I don’t have a glam team…I’m kind of just doing this freestyle…my mom always told me that, at some point in my life, I would not want to wear makeup on my skin. She was right!”
According to McGrath’s Instagram, Anderson “dazzled in a COMPLETE #patmcgrathlabs LOOK featuring Divine Cream Blush: Legendary Glow Color Balm ‘DIVINE ROSE GLOW’ ($29) & Skin Fetish: Highlighter + Balm Duo ‘NUDE’ ($50).“
“I have spent a lot of my life in makeup,” Anderson shared with British Vogue prior to the night. “I’m so grateful and excited that I get to work with Pat. I know she’s going to take whatever this is and polish me up a little bit. We had a long conversation about the way that photography has changed how we wear makeup. In the ’80s and ’90s we wore really strong makeup, and then digital photography came along and, all of a sudden, you look different.”
Anderson also went on to share that her goal for tonight’s look was “something dewy, soft and ethereal. Kind of romantic and approachable—but still ‘done’. I feel like there’s always been this very elegant woman inside of me. And I feel like [the Met Gala] is actually the time I get to be that woman.”
For her part, McGrath might have just helped usher in a new makeup movement as well: “Pam wanted to wear makeup again for the Met Gala, so we created a look that acknowledged her natural beauty, but then took it to the next level,” she shared with the outlet, adding that Anderson was “in love with the spa-fresh skin” she’s created for the runways. “We wanted to explore the next incarnation of natural—an elevation of natural—and to show how you can wear a full face of makeup but in a very fresh and beautiful way.”
