Lethal Cosmetics Afterdark Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

After Dark

Lethal Cosmetics Afterdark Pressed Powder Palette ($47.00 for 0.68 oz.) is a brighter, more colorful set of shades that includes eight matte shades and four shimmer shades. You can also purchase the shades individually if only one or two catch your eye.
For as many brighter, more colorful mattes included, it was a good palette, though those who normally use eyeshadow primer will see improvement of the more minor issues I had with a few of the mattes (only one was a real dud!).

Frequency

Frequency is a soft white with neutral undertones and a matte finish. The texture was substantial enough to apply with mostly opaque coverage, but it did sheer out a touch due to being lightly powdery overall. There were signs of fading present after eight hours of wear.

Formula Overview

$6.00/0.06 oz. – $100.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have “extreme pigmentation” and “effortless blendability” … “that [will] last all day.” There are two primary finishes: mattes and metallics, and the latter can also be used wet.

The matte finish has semi-opaque to opaque color coverage with moderate powderiness; it’s a formula that is best used with a lighter hand. There was light fallout with some shades, though not at all, and they were blendable for the most part. Even with a light hand, there was still a bit of powderiness present–the brand did warn about using less with their formula–in the pan.

There were a few darker shades that had a tendency to sheer out when applied or did not apply as evenly, especially when layered over a lighter shade but most of the mid-tone and lighter shades were easy to apply and blend out. As a result, I found myself having better results by going dark to light rather than light to dark (which is more in line with how I typically work).

The metallic finish ranged from creamier, denser, and a bit thicker to softer, dense but still a little powdery (usually the lighter, more white-based shades). They were mostly opaque to fully opaque in a single layer, so they didn’t need to be applied with a wet brush to achieve coverage or adhesion. I found that some of the more powdery, shimmery shades were more flattering on the lid when used with a fingertip or a dampened brush, though.

The matte eyeshadows tended to wear around eight hours on me before fading, while the shimmer shades lasted eight to eight and a half hours on me.

Arcade

Arcade is a brighter, light pink with moderate, warm undertones and flecks of almost greenish-gold sparkle and shimmer that gave it a metallic finish. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, moderately dense texture that picked up well with a brush and deposited even coverage. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Replica

Replica is a bright, light-medium green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, and velvety with good substance, so it yielded rich coverage without being prone to sheering out while I had no issues diffusing the edges. It wore nicely for eight hours before showing signs of fading.

Sequence

Sequence is a darker, cooler lavender with almost a bluish tone to it paired with a matte finish. The texture was soft, lightly powdery, and thinner compared to most of the matte shades in the palette, so it wasn’t as easy to build up or to blend out. It had semi-opaque coverage that was buildable best over an eyeshadow primer. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Overdrive

Overdrive is a soft, silvery white with subtle, cool undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow had nearly opaque color coverage that adhered well to my lid and diffused nicely along the edges. The texture was smooth, moderately dense but not thick or stiff, so it picked up well with a dry brush. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Synth

Synth is a light-medium lavender with warmer, pinker undertones and flecks of blue and gold pearl that gave it a metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out well without being prone to fallout. The consistency was moderately dense, smooth, and easy to work with. There were signs of fading present after eight hours of wear.

Capslock

Capslock is a bright, neon fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was soft, lightly powdery but not prone to fallout or sheering out too readily, so it blended out with ease. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Nightcall

Nightcall is a muted, medium-dark purple with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had medium coverage that was buildable to semi-opaque pigmentation but benefitted greatly from using with a primer, which also helped the color apply more evenly and blend with less effort. The texture seemed thinner and more powdery, which likely contributed to the coverage and application issues I had. It wore decently for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.
