Kyle Richards Simplifies Daily Makeup Regimen With Tattoo Treatments

Kyle Richards underwent not one but two semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo treatments to simplify her daily makeup routine, as revealed in an Instagram post on Thursday, April 25.

“I’m sharing this make up free photo because I wanted to share that I finally got the courage to go see @mehringlam [Mehrin May] to micro blade the parts of my eyebrows that I like to fill in AND I also did lip blushing,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star captioned the photo. “I’ve always had bushy eyebrows, but they weren’t even (sisters , not twins ). So even if I wanted to go make up free I would always fill them in a little and put something on my lips. But now I can skip that part of my routine.”

She also mentioned her youngest daughter, Portia Umansky, contoured her mom’s nose with self-tanner, “so my nose will be like this for a few days,” she wrote. This technique, called “tantouring,” has gained popularity on TikTok.

The overarching idea behind all of Richards’ latest treatments is to save time in one’s morning makeup regimen by cutting down on steps and products. Ahead, get the need-to-know details about Richards’ two semi-permanent cosmetic treatments, along with her self-tanner hack.

All About Microblading

Microblading is a semi-permanent tattooing technique designed to enhance the appearance of one’s natural brows. “Microblading has become very trendy in recent years, but it specifically refers to a technique that creates the look of hair strokes,” New York City permanent makeup artist Kendra Bray, founder of Better Brows & Beauty, previously told NewBeauty. “It’s good for clients who want a natural look. But if the client wants a more defined, ‘finished’-looking brow, microblading cannot create enough coverage.”

Lip Blushing 101

Like microblading, lip blushing is a semi-permanent tattooing method meant to give your lips color, so you don’t have to apply lip products every day. In an interview with NewBeauty in December of 2021 before the trend gained widespread popularity, Atlanta cosmetic tattoo expert Gabrielle Rainbow discussed her clients’ enthusiasm for the “lip blush” technique, which she and her partner, Erick Holguin, developed.

“We wanted to create something new that would replace the traditional lip tattoos we are used to seeing,” Rainbow told NewBeauty. “The process depends on a couple of factors, but we essentially use a pigment and tattoo the full lip,” she says. “We can define the lips a lot more and give them overall a prettier tone, which gives them a more plump and fuller look. We were aiming for more of a lip-tint look, something more natural that emphasizes without being overdone.”

The Tantouring Trend

Chief marketing officer at Bondi Sands Alexandra Peek previously told NewBeauty that tantouring is so popular on TikTok because “it’s an easy and quick way to sculpt and chisel desired features with a soft and lasting bronze.” Celebrity tan artist and founder of Dolce Glow Isabel Alysa added that the key to tantouring the nose is to use a “light hand,” and use a self-tanning product specifically formulated for the face. “By applying self-tanner to specific areas of the face, such as the hollows of the cheeks, the sides of the nose, the jawline and the temples, you can create the illusion of shadows and depth, which can make your features appear more sculpted and defined,” she said.
