June Shannon attempts to move on from ‘abusive’ boyfriend Geno and get back to dating

June Shannon attempted to move on from her boyfriend Geno Doak, after leaving him during the season premiere of Mama June: Road to Redemption.

The reality TV star, 42, revealed the toxic details of their relationship and how she had been afraid for her life, before finally ending the union outside of a courthouse, with Geno, 46, saying he felt ‘blindsided’.

It was also revealed that June had been seeing a string of male friends at her hotel room in Alabama, where she had been hiding out from Geno.

The episode began with June detailing the reasons for why she ended up leaving Geno – who she introduced to viewers as her boyfriend in Season 2 of Mama June: From Not to Hot – in the middle of the night.

‘You know, I should’ve left Geno a long time ago. He got domestic violence charges. I shouldn’t have dropped those, but I was scared like a lot of women are,’ she explained to producers.

June then expressed that she was afraid for her life when they were arrested following a domestic dispute in 2019.

‘That day, he drunk, smoked cocaine. He smoked crack. He shot up cocaine and just, he snapped. And that time, he started pulling my hair. He said I was a b****. And I was screaming the whole time, help me. He’s gonna kill me.’ 

‘And five cops came up behind us. So we got arrested. I think it was by the grace of God because he could have killed me,’ she stated.

However, she decided to drop the domestic violence charged against Geno: ‘I wanted that morning to go in there and tell the D.A. that I wanted to keep the domestic violence charges. But I knew that if I had to go fight a case, I couldn’t have done it because I was scared for my life.’

June then explained that she told the grand jury that the couple were ‘working’ on their relationship and going to counseling, which she told her producer ‘was all lies.’

She revealed how Geno made her believe that she was ‘the problem’ and that she felt ‘emotionally beat down.’

‘In a domestic violence situation, he ain’t got to put his f***** hands on you. He really don’t. But the mentalist and the emotional state they can put you in, is the worst f***** abuse than somebody putting their damn hands on me.’

The mom-of-four explained that she had stayed for so long due to ‘love, stupidity, thinking it’s gonna change’ and that her and Geno had a ‘codependent relationship.’

‘It’s really hard to kind of… to get away from that because any codependency on somebody is worse than a drug addiction. It’s easier for somebody on the outside to say “Just leave” like the kids were. It’s easy to make that judgment because I would tell other people that,’ she explained.

June then revealed that her sobriety was her priority: ‘My sobriety is number one, and I don’t wanna get back in that mindset. And I see myself slipping back into that if I stayed in the situation.’

It was then revealed that she had not officially broken up with Geno, but was intending to do it at his court appearance. 

‘It’s gonna be super hard to break it off with Geno. I honestly don’t know what’s gonna happen when I see him. But when you love somebody and you care about somebody and they’ve got that much f***** control over you, you know within your heart, you know within your gut that you need to get the f***** away, or you’re gonna end up dead.’  

Elsewhere in the show, June’s daughter Lauryn Efrid (aka Pumpkin), 22, who had just given birth to her son Bentley, was upset that her mother had not come to see her son, like she had with her daughter Ella, four.

‘With Ella, mom made sure she was a part of Ella’s life 24/7. But Bentley hasn’t even met Gigi because she’s up and missing again. God knows what June and Geno are doin’,’ she stated. 

Alana Thompson (aka Honey Boo Boo), 16, who has been staying with Pumpkin and her husband Josh in their new home, along with her sister Jessica Shannon (aka Chubbs), 25, also expressed her disappointment with their mother. 

‘I’ve spent so many years worrying about Mama and where she is and what she’s doin’ that I’m kind of just over it now. Like, I’ve realized that Mama’s gonna do what Mama wants to do, when she wants to do it, and how she wants to do it,’ she expressed. 

When Pumpkin finally got a hold of June on the phone, she admonished her for not having a plan about what she would do next.

‘Just call me back when you make a damn decision on what the hell you’re gonna do with your life. Because I got kids who actually need me. I’m not really sure if you know what that feels like,’ she said. 

‘Yes, I do know what that feels like. You ain’t gotta be so rude about it,’ June replied.

June was then shown attending Geno’s court hearing, where she decided she would leave him for good. 

‘I been thinkin’ about this for weeks, for months, and now the moment’s here, and I’m not gonna lie to you my anxiety is like 5 million to none. But I know I need to end the chapter, and this is my safe way of doing it,’ she revealed.

‘Being away from you and leaving gave me clarity, but I’ve honestly been scared to leave ’cause I didn’t wanna end up unhappy. I’ve put myself to the side for over 20 plus years, and I need to work on me. I need to learn to love myself. I need to stop toxic relationships,’ she told him.

‘I’m out. I’m not leaving this courthouse in my vehicle. You can have f***** car. I don’t give a f*** about it,’ she said, asking Geno not to bash her on social media. 

Geno later told producers: ‘I do love June and I feel kind of blindsided more than anything. We been together almost six years. Things were okay, I thought.’

‘It hurts and it sucks. It’s gonna take some getting’ used to, and it’s not really, you know, what I wanted, but we’ll deal with it. And I haven’t really had even time for it to sink in completely yet,’ he added.

Meanwhile June explained why the choice was the best decision: ‘I can’t be around s*** that Geno does. I can’t be around the alcohol. I can’t be around the drugs. I can’t be in a domestic violence situation. I’m not going back.’ 

However, not all her kids were pleased with her decision to give up the car, as Jessica complained that the car should have went to her.

‘I’ve been without a car for two years because of Mama. Mama pawned the title to my car, so it got repossessed. Mama paid for that car she gave Geno. I mean, she could have gave it to me.’

After the hearing, June decided to go over to Pumpkin’s house announced, which prompted her daughter to worry about her husband’s reaction. 

‘What the f***? Josh is gonna flip the f*** out. I don’t even know if I want her to come here because it’s like, you didn’t even have the audacity to reach out to me when your grandson was born,’ she said.

As she predicted, Josh was none too pleased when he found out about June deciding to finally visit. 

‘I’m gonna go take a break to myself because your mother would f***** make me have a mental breakdown, and I don’t wanna do that here.’

‘I have so much hatred built up towards June that I’m afraid that if I ever just have the chance to actually get face-to-face, there’s gonna be words that come out that you can’t really take back,’ he explained.

Pumpkin was then seen telling her husband Josh that she believed June had already found a guy to replace Geno.

‘I’m sure there’s a guy involved,’ she told him.

‘I’m assuming one of these people that your mother met on TikTok,’ he said.

‘I mean, I’m not 100% sure, but I’m pretty sure. She don’t leave one person without having another m********** lined up.’

‘You know what, you wanna go on finding you a new replacement for Geno, because I know that’s where it’s going, but I don’t need you bringin’ in any of your side pieces around my house, or Josh will have that handled quick,’ Pumpkin told the cameras.

Elsewhere in the show Pumpkin confronted June about her dating situation, saying she didn’t think it was a good idea for her to be dating around. 

‘So bein’ with seven different men on TikTok is discovering yourself? You got caught yet again, Junebug. I know you wasn’t sitting alone in that hotel by yourself. Social media tell on you every time,’ her daughter replied.

‘You know, Mama’s staying in that hotel ’cause she’s hiding out from Geno, you know, so terrified, and look at this s***. Here’s one guy. Here’s another guy. Two guys. Now a third and a fourth.’

‘You know, I do believe that what Mama was saying about the problems going on with Geno were true, but it don’t look like you wasted any time trying to replace him,’ Pumpkin said.

‘I know damn good and well you was not paying $47 for no hotel when you was hiding out from Geno with all your men,’ she told June.

‘Well, not men. I was hanging out by myself.’

‘B**** lies.’

‘I mean, look, I am single, ready to mingle. I’m a MILF,’ June replied.

‘I thought like this time she won’t maybe jump from man to man again, but…’

‘I’m not jumping from man to man. Just because you have friends does not mean you’re f***** them,’ June replied.

‘The girls don’t understand. I need to do this. I need to feel better about myself. I need to have a voice to be strong and to love myself for me,’ she told the cameras.

‘This is not you working on yourself because you do this every time. You’re like “No, I’m not wanting to be with a man” How do you be knowing these folks? That’s what, that is my concern. Like, honestly, I don’t care that you’re doing it. It’s just a concern for me because I just feel like other people again are coming before us.’  

‘I guess because I do get so consumed.’

‘Well, you should be consumed with your kids,’ Pumpkin quipped back.
