It’s a sad day in the skin care world: Boscia has announced that it’s shutting down. In an Instagram post on Wednesday, April 1, the clean beauty brand informed followers of its impending closing sale, offering 55 percent off everything.

“We regret to inform you that we will be closing our website on 5/31,” the brand captioned the post. “We want to express our sincere gratitude for your loyal support throughout the years. Thank you for being a part of our journey. Enjoy our final discount.”

While the brand has yet to officially confirm whether it’s closing its doors for good, Beauty Independent announced the exclusive confirmation. Additionally, a customer claimed to have received an email from the brand confirming the news, as revealed in an Instagram comment on the brand’s post.

Before news of its closure became more widely known, concerned skin-care users flooded the comments section seeking clarification. “Closing the website but not going out of business?” one Instagram user asked. “Will you be available in select shops? Or are you going out of business too?”

Others freaked out about losing access to its products, writing that their entire skin care routine is Boscia. “Real tears are being shed rn,” another person wrote. “My entire skin care routine is Boscia, the the products are so unique idk how I’ll ever find a replacement.”

Boscia was founded in 2002 by Kenji Ikemori. For years, it’s been widely praised by those in pursuit of vegan, cruelty-free, and sensitive skin-friendly formulations. As reported by Beauty Independent, the brand has transitioned between retailers over time. Initially, Boscia exclusively partnered with Sephora, but it later moved to Ulta Beauty and Amazon.

The conversation has even made it to Reddit. Multiple users took to the platform in a panic, commiserating over the loss of their beloved skin-care brand. Many mentioned Boscia brand carries their “holy grail products.” Among those mentioned: its famed Detoxifying Black Charcoal Cleanser. The popular item is no longer available on the brand’s website, suggesting it may have sold out, but at the time of writing, you can still scoop it up on Amazon and Shopbop.

Another popular product from Boscia? The Luminizing Black Charcoal Mask. Its unique peel-off formula gained widespread attention on social media platforms like TikTok. Countless posts rave about its efficacy, with one particularly popular creator stating it’s “the only peel-off mask that I use.” In the caption, she even declares it her “fave peel-off mask since 2016.”

In her viral video, she elaborated, stating, “most peel off masks are too harsh or they’re kind of like, for nothing. This, I can clearly see a difference; it gets all the gunk out of my face.” To demonstrate, she showed viewers the underside of the mask after application, revealing the impurities picked up by the mask, even after cleansing her face. “I feel like [my skin] looks a lot brighter after I use this.”
