Alongside photos of his bloodied face and snaps from his hospital bed, Ant explained in a lengthy caption what had happened.

Unable to open his mouth to talk, he instead wrote: ‘I was attacked by a man and his friend in Lineker sports bar in San Antonio Ibiza! Shout out to the manager there he was super helpful This was an completely unprovoked attack I was simply dancing on a night out enjoying the first night of my holiday. So anyone asking if I have been fighting the answer is no, no I wasn’t fighting, I was brutally attacked!’

‘I came to Ibiza to get away, relax and have fun but instead I’ve had my jaw broken in three places both upper and lower, wires put in to keep my mouth shut, I have a numb face due to nerve damage from the punches!

‘The feeling may or may not come back we don’t know and they have thrown in few stitches added in there for good measure. Pretty much resembling the elephant man at this point.’

Ant continued, saying that he was looking at up to six months recovery time after the surgery, which he said put his TV career in jeopardy.

Ant said he’s looking at a recovery period of four to six months after having surgery and his jaw wired shut.

‘In all honesty biggest thing I’m scared of right now is the nerve damage I literally can’t feel my face as the nerves are in a bad way!

‘I’ve spoken to people who still haven’t got the feeling back after 12 years so…. there’s that!

‘Anyone that knows me knows I’m not afraid to share my emotions and I do get upset and that’s ok I’m only human!

‘When I sit and think about how this is going to effect my career, TV work and how it could affect my future…. What if the feeling in my face doesn’t come back? It does get a bit much and I’m overwhelmed with emotion but I’m trying to stay positive.’

He ended the post with a warning to his fans, writing: ‘Be careful out there the world can be a cruel place.’

Ant’s Geordie Show co-stars added supportive comments to the post, with Chloe Ferry writing: ‘Could cry for you’, while pregnant Charlotte Crosby said: ‘You got this Ant.’
