[purchase] Someone on Instagram asked me to recommend budget skin tints – she actually said ‘natural’ skin tints and I thought she meant natural in the composition rather than natural looking. Anyway, it was quite a day of discovery when I put some time and effort into finding that very thing because budget and natural ingredients don’t seem to have come together anywhere. I found one in my local chemist (I forget the name) that was so chalky and awful, I couldn’t bring myself to buy it even though it wasn’t terribly expensive. However, I did discover Essence Skin Tint SPF30 and paid £3.95 for it. It’s one of the best bargain buys I’ve ever come across.

I bought shade 50 which is just a bit too deep for me although it doesn’t look as deep on the skin as it does in the tube for some bizarre reason. I think my perfect match would be shade 40 (there are 16 shades).

There will be a point in the summer where this is correct – just not now! In actual fact, the commenter in question meant natural looking – this definitely wouldn’t pass the natural content test – which this is to a certain point. To my mind it’s more of a light foundation than a tint, although you can play about with it until you find the coverage level that suits you, but it’s absolutely fantastic. A very smooth finish, perfect in evening out tone and gentle feeling on the skin. I was instantly reminded of L’Oreal Paris True Match which in turn is a brilliant substitute for far more expensive bases so at £3.95 for the Essence version, I feel we are winning.
