Sleeping in the right position is the one of the most important factors in reducing wrinkle problems.

Lack of sleep can cause serious health problems like hypertension, diabetes, and obesity among others. Apart from that, it has been long reported that if we don’t get enough sleep regularly, it could lead to premature signs of aging like sleep wrinkles, loss of skin tone, dryness, and age spots to count some.

However, these skin wrinkles are temporary and signs of unhealthy sleeping patterns. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity allowing them to permanently set in.

But there are a few simple precautionary steps by which you can prevent these sleep wrinkles.

By following a proper night skincare routine

Sleeping masks can help prevent sleep wrinkles as they are laden with ingredients like Centella Asiatica. Apart from that, Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body, keeps the skin’s collagen and elastin in an ideal configuration, which could help slow down wrinkle formation.

This acid is also used as an ingredient in several creams and lotions. Apply Hyaluronic acid-laden cream on your face before going to sleep.

Also, Retinol could be one of the most effective anti-aging components. Dr Nirupama Parwanda, Dermatologist MBBS, MD, captioned one of her Instagram videos, “Retinols are great anti-aging ingredients and help reduce fine lines, wrinkles and help reduce skin texture.”

In the video, the health expert advised, “Don’t start with high-strength retinol, start with low-strength and do not apply it every day.”

Sleep on your Back

Sleeping in the right position is one of the most important factors in reducing wrinkle problems. Sleeping on your stomach or on one of the sides could result in constant pressure on your face. Eventually, this could lead to permanent lines on your face.

Dr Gaile Robredo-Vitas said in one of her YouTube videos, “There are two sleeping positions that are majorly responsible for forming sleep wrinkles. The first is sleeping on your side, it will definitely lead to wrinkles and lines on the side that you sleep on. The second position is sleeping on your stomach, as this position presses your face or your skin against the bed or pillow for hours, leading to swelling and brown lines around the eye area. The pressure can also cause puffiness.”

“It is recommended that you should sleep on your back if you want to prevent wrinkle-inducing friction or pressure,” she added.

Use a special pillow

Another best way to prevent sleep wrinkles is to use special customized pillows that are designed to provide a better sleeping experience. Earlier, studies have shown that these types of pillows reduce mechanical stress during sleep and can prevent skin deformations.

Improve your lifestyle

By avoiding unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking, junk food, and drinking you can prevent early aging. Try eating healthy foods like fruits, green veggies, seeds, nuts, etc. and also drink an adequate amount of water daily. It’s important to keep our skin hydrated.
