ColourPop Play It Jewel Mega Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Play It Jewel

ColourPop Play It Jewel 30-Pan Shadow Palette ($34.00 for 0.92 oz.) is the brand’s latest and greatest mega-palette inspired by jewel-tones. The palette was split evenly between shimmery and matte shades, and there was a decent amount of differences in depth, undertones, and color families that I could see it churning out several different looks. It was, however, still more of a neutral palette with pops of jewel-tones rather than dominated by jewel-tones.

The quality was decent with some shimmers and mattes being more semi-opaque and/or more powdery with light to moderate fallout, while other shades applied beautifully.

Crystalline

Crystalline is a pale gold with warmer undertones and a frosted finish. The texture felt a little drier and more loosely-pressed into the pan, which resulted in some fallout during application and a tendency for the product to sheer out to more medium coverage from mostly opaque initially. It wore nicely for seven hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. – $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Rocker

Rocker is a medium, yellowy-peach with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color payoff paired with a soft, blendable texture that was somewhat powdery but not too prone to sheering out. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Luster

Luster is a bright, light-medium copper with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The eyeshadow felt almost cream-like as it was dense, emollient, and smooth but managed to apply beautifully to bare skin with only a touch of fallout as it was so pigmented. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Optical

Optical is a bright, medium-dark orange-gold with strong, warm undertones and a frosted finish. The eyeshadow was more loosely-pressed in the pan, which resulted in light fallout and some powderiness that made the shimmer less seamless on bare skin. It had opaque pigmentation that wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Sparkle

Sparkle is a bright, chartreuse green with warmer undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer where a little went a long way as the texture was lightly creamy, denser, and smooth. I’d recommend using a lighter hand when picking up product initially to avoid light fallout. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Mirror

Mirror is a bright, medium-dark copper with strong, warm orange undertones and a metallic finish. The consistency was smooth, almost cream-like, without being overly dense or too thick in the pan. It had opaque color payoff that stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Crown

Crown is a medium-dark forest green with subtle, cool undertones and a frosted finish. The consistency was firmer, a little stiffer and more challenging to pick up evenly with a dry brush so I’d recommend using it with a dampened brush or fingertip for a more even application of product. It had mostly opaque coverage that stayed on decently for seven hours before fading visibly.

Tiara

Tiara is a medium blue with moderate, cool undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was more emollient and thicker, which resulted in a somewhat uneven, more semi-opaque laydown of product that did not build up. I’d recommend using it with a dampened brush, but it was never as blended as desired. It lasted decently for seven and a half hours on me.

Geode Life is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with strong, cool blue undertones and a matte finish. Moving Colours is a bright, medium-dark red-copper with warm undertones and a pearly sheen with flecks of pink and gold micro-sparkle. Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. – $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing.” The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they’re not intended for usage on the immediate eye area.

The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.
