Bhumi Pednekar Drapes An Opulent Banarasi Saree To Celebrate Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi

Bhumi Pednekar looked regal in the timeless handwoven six-yards of sheer elegance.


Designed by couturier Manish Malhotra, the tissue silk saree epitomises the artistry of Indian heritage, weaving a tapestry of magnificence and grace.

When Bhumi Pednekar and Manish Malhotra come together, you ought to expect pure magic. At the star-studded premiere of Sanjaya Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, Bhumi Pednekar graced the red carpet in an opulent Banarasi tissue silk saree designed by couturier Manish Malhotra.

The luminous ensemble featured a burgundy velvet blouse with delicate zardosi and badla jaali, encrusted with multicolour stones. When paired with the black Banarasi tissue saree, trimmed with vintage zardozi borders, it added an old world charm to Bhumi’s overall opulent look.

Bhumi gracefully walked the red carpet looking like a diva in the traditional attire. Taking to Instagram, Bhumi shared a series of images of her draped in the handwoven saree. She said, “Dressed to celebrate the magician for Heeramandi wearing the magician @manishmalhotra05 @manishmalhotraworld Pure Opulence.”

The rich and luscious textile was draped perfectly on Bhumi accentuating her gorgeous frame. Styled by Chandini Whabi, Bhumi accessorised with earrings from Mahesh Notandass.

The elegant and timeless saree is from Manish Malhotra’s recent collection Banaras, which he showcased at the Namo Ghat in Varanasi. The collection highlighted the craftsmanship of the Bunkar community and the skilled artisans of Varanasi. The collection spotlighted the beauty of Banarasi silk sarees, each piece meticulously handwoven by talented bunkers, a process that takes months to perfect compared to the rapidity of machine-made fabrics.

Paying homage to the unparalleled workmanship of Indian heritage, the silk sarees unveiled at the fashion show in Varanasi were a perfect amalgamation of handwoven textiles and Manish’s contemporary aesthetics.

At the Heermandi: The Diamond Bazaar premiere, Manish Malhotra’s creations were also adorned by actors Taaha Shah, Sharmin Segal, Shekhar Suman and Adhyayan Suman.

Gracing the occasion to celebrate the filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali were Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday, Vicky Kaushal, Mrunal Thakur, Wamiqa Gabbi, Genelia Deshmukh, Farida Jalal, Rhea Chakraborty, Huma Qureshi, Rashmika Mandanna, Neetu Kapoor, Soni Razdan, Pooja Hegde, Rakul Preet Singh, Rekha, among others.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is a drama series featuring an ensemble cast including Manisha Koirala, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan, Taaha Shah to name a few. The series is all set to release on Netflix on May 1.
