Dementia: Two or more chronic conditions in middle age strongly linked to the condition

Previous research has linked many of these conditions to increased risk of dementia but limited research has been conducted on the impact of developing these conditions at an earlier age.

It is now understood that the earlier some of the conditions develop, the greater the risk of dementia later on.

During the early years of the study, only 6.6 percent of the 10,000 participants had multimorbidity at age 55.

By age 70 this number had multiplied to 32 percent.
