No SPF in your foundation? Need to reapply SPF but you don’t want to mess up your makeup? Or simply looking for a spray in lieu of a liquid or cream sunblock? This setting spray solves it all.

Meet your newest skin-care-meets-makeup must-have from derm-favorite (and medical esthetician-founded) skin-care brand Kate Somerville (the brand doesn’t just make incredible creams and serums!). The UncompliKated SPF Soft Focus Makeup Setting Spray ($40-$44) is a broad spectrum SPF 50 sunblock, with “light diffusing silicone powder,” hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants to create a magnificently multifaceted last step in your routine. It is *so* convenient.

Hydrating and blurring, it’s ideal for a dewy-but-not-greasy finish. The silicone powder works to soften the appearance of lines and pores while providing a mattifying effect, and the antioxidants (rhodiola rosea works overtime to make sure the skin stays as stress-free as possible) work in tangent with the sunscreen to protect from future damage, no matter what else you have on your face (to boot, antioxidants with SPF can help prevent breakouts). Because it hydrates (it’s formulated with hyaluronic acid) and mattifies, it’s a versatile choice for a range of skin types.

While it’ll absolutely keep your makeup in place (I’ve tested this over the course of months, and it’s kept my foundation, concealer, eye makeup and blush in place—not a smear in sight, or pigment out of place), it can also be used alone if you need a quick refresher of SPF—it’s perfect for reapplication. It’s good to keep in mind that sunscreen in your foundation doesn’t last all day, and you’ll need to re-apply roughly every two hours.

Application is as simple and straightforward as you’d imagine. When you’re done with your makeup (or are simply ready to head outside), hold the misting lever eight to 10 inches away from your face, and apply evenly from forehead to neck (make sure to close your eyes and mouth!). Forewarning, it is a sunscreen spray, so make sure to open a window or apply in a ventilated area. Fortunately, it doesn’t smell like synthetic coconut, thanks to a touch of lavender oil. It’s fresh and light, and very much the opposite of cloying.

My favorite part? There’s no cast or white residue. It applies perfectly clear, as if you’re laying a lovely filter over your face before going out for the day. But don’t just take my word for it—the reviews laud it as the “best sunblock ever” because it “makes sunscreen application 100% easier.” Sold.

$40-$44 is a bit steep for SPF, but the ability to spray it over makeup (without ruining it) and using it as an all-day spray makes it worth it to me. And this bottle will last me all summer long.
