The Jennifer Aniston skin care routine for aging in reverse

0

In her 50s, good skin care is a big part of Jennifer Aniston’s self-care routine, but her wellness habits go beyond just serums and scrubs.

Aniston takes her health and fitness seriously. So seriously, in fact, that she can do a three-minute plank. She has a go-to elliptical routine, too. But she’s also learned that true wellness is all about balance.

“I went from being a crazy workout girl to sort of saying, ‘My body wants a little bit a of break,'” Aniston told Women’s Health in 2014.I kind of stay with more simple stuff and taking walks and not being neurotic about working out and eating right. I started to enjoy life a little bit more.” Keep reading to find out exactly how she does it.

5 of Jennifer Aniston’s best skin-care and wellness tips

1. Moisturizer and SPF non-negotiable

Aniston spends a lot of time in the sun, but she’s learned the importance of protecting her skin. As a spokesperson for Aveeno, Aniston says she’s all about Aveeno Protect+Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($9) and Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Sheer Hydration Lotion ($9). “They are actually in my car, in my bag, in the pool, in the kitchen, in the bedroom, in the bathroom—they’re everywhere. As well as my hand lotion. Lotions and sunscreens all the time.” Pro tip: Aniston keeps her body lotion in the shower, and applies it as soon as she turns off the taps. “This is an extra trick for extra hydration as your body is still warm,” she says.

2. She geeks out with at-home beauty gadgets

Okay, we can’t all have an infrared sauna in our homes, but Aniston tells Shape that this tool has been a game-changer: “That I do a couple times a week right after I do the gym. I’ve noticed a real change in my energy, and my sleep, and my skin.” She’s also devotee of makeup artist Jillian Dempsey’s Gold Sculpting Bar ($195)—a 24-karat gold, vibrating skin-care gadget that helps the complexion appear toned, lifted, and revived—and facialist Melanie Simon’s ZIIP Beauty Device ($495). “I have never seen such a result from a little machine like that,” she tells Vogue.

3. Mindful mornings allow her to enter her days with clarity

When Aniston is working, she’s up around 4:30 a.m. She previously told Well+Good she starts her day with 10 to 20 minutes of meditation, followed by breakfast and a workout. “Usually I’ll have a shake, with some sort of pure protein, then bananas, blueberries, frozen cherries, stevia, a vegetable mix of dynamic greens that goes in there, maca powder, and a little cacao,” she says. “If I don’t have a shake, I’ll just have some toast and poached eggs with some avocado. Or millet cereal with almond milk and bananas—it’s really yummy, and you can get it hot for winter months.”

4. She keeps exercise interesting

Aniston loves mixing up her workouts. “I have a trainer, a wonderful woman who I do this spin-yoga class [with]. We spin for half an hour, and then do yoga for 40 minutes. That’s pretty intense,” she says. “Then I go to a gym, where I do strength training or just my own thing on the treadmill, the bike, or the elliptical, just to change things up. Keeping your body confused is always the key for me.” She’s also a huge fan of boxing.

Like all of us, Aniston tells Women’s Health that she has days where she really doesn’t want to work out. “I think you just have to listen to your body,” she says. But sometimes, she just bites the bullet and goes. “If you just say, ‘OK, I’m going to get on some machine for 10 minutes,’ you just start to get the endorphins going. Then you feel great, and you just keep going.”

5. Sundays are for self care (and pasta)

First, Aniston cues up some spa music on Pandora. Then, the fun begins. The typical Jennifer Aniston skin-care routine usually involves a scrub, a mask, and then the Aveeno Positively Radiant Overnight Hydrating Facial Moisturizer ($14), she tells Shape. “I leave it on overnight and when I wake up I have that dewy, glowing, twinkling skin,” she says. But before getting her beauty sleep, Aniston likes to hang out with her loved ones and have a yummy meal. “Sunday is usually a night of pasta or something homemade, where family gets together and we cook,” she tells Self. “It’s really fun.” Can I join next time, Jen?
