The NHS lists nausea, indigestion, headaches, aches and pains in the back and joints, and nosebleeds as possible side effects of the drug too.
But research published earlier this year, however, challenged the widely held belief that statins cause undesirable side effects.
The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found 90 percent of the symptoms people recorded were also present when people took the placebo.
The findings suggested that people experiencing side effects with statins may be experiencing the “nocebo effect” – meaning a negative side effect occurred due to a belief that the drug will cause harm.
