[unpaid/sample/affiliate/ad] Yay! This is about time! It’s a big deal, no matter where you are in your career, to be invited to create a colour for MAC Cosmetics and become a Maker. Nic & Sam are described as long-standing friends of the brand – they are both former MAC artists before their YouTube (HERE) career went stellar but we will all know them better for their relatable Pixiwoo make overs. You need to look back a little bit (to 2008 to be exact) to really see how groundbreaking the sisters were – Pixiwoo was the blog and channel on everyone’s lips when I started my site. Watching them put their make up on and teach others how to replicate the looks was revelatory – make up artistry was always one of those hidden skills that as a layperson, you could only think of as something available to celebrities and then only for films or red carpet … it never seemed accessible or a thing you could do on yourself at home. And yet, look where we are now! Many, many tutorials later we are more knowledgeable, more experimental and more confident with our make up choices and I think we have a great deal to thank them, and other make up artists for, because in sharing their knowledge and embracing technology they changed a beauty landscape.

From a personal standpoint, thank goodness they’re Cremesheens! I love anything that brings light to the lips and MAC’s Cremesheen does exactly that without heading towards glossy – you’ll get a fulsome coverage from these because they’re so well pigmented but at the same time, the light-catch diffuses and softens the look. It’s really an every-age product because it flatters all.

Nic has gone for a light and peachy coral shade that I like better than Walk of No Shame as a neutral – it’s somehow more full bodied and nutty with something of a 60’s reference, modernised by the sheen finish. Sam’s choice is a blue-toned red that is closer to a deep pink than pillar box on the colour spectrum. It’s striking, luscious and perfect to wear entirely on its own… it doesn’t need anything but your face.

I feel pleased about this recognition – social media gets a bad rap now and it’s easy to forget how innocently it all started with creators like Nic & Sam taking a leap into the unknown. They were there at the beginning and they’re still here now and that’s a celebration. The MAC Maker Nic & Sam Lipsticks are £17.50 each HERE, non-affiliate HERE.
