Indian health startup Meddo buys e-prescription platform Doxper

Meddo, an Indian startup running a digital outpatient care platform, has purchased Doxper, another startup, via a cash and stock deal.

WHAT THEY DO

Founded in 2015, Doxper provides a platform for health record management and patient engagement. Its AI-powered digital pen and paper solution enables doctors to instantly digitise case sheets without any change in behaviour or workflow. It is also used to automate reminders for streamlining patient treatment plans. The company claims to serve more than 4,000 doctors, as well as 1,800 clinics and 50 hospitals, such as Cloudnine, Manipal Hospitals and BLK Max.

Meddo, on the other hand, transforms clinics into full-service health centres through its digitally enabled services. Since 2018, it has served over 10 million patients and delivered more than 15 million digitised prescriptions. Presently, it operates around 250 smart clinics in Delhi and Bangalore.

WHY IT MATTERS

Based on a press statement, Doxper’s acquisition will bring around 300,000-400,000 more patients per month to Meddo’s customer base, making the digital outpatient care platform one of the largest health tech players in India. With Doxper, it also eyes to transform 1,000 more clinics within the next 12-15 months across 10 top-tier markets in India.

THE LARGER TREND

Doxper is currently expanding internationally with a huge rollout in about 1,000 clinics in Bangladesh and a pilot in two maternity care centres in Nigeria.

During the pandemic, Meddo launched various solutions, including L1 COVID-19 centres, teleconsultation services, diagnostic solutions and a healthcare membership programme called MeddoSure.

ON THE RECORD

“Enabling Meddo’s one-stop care for millions of patients across the Doxper network, in addition to their prescription technology, creates the right ecosystem to fundamentally transform outpatient care, which has been our goal from the get-go,” Meddo Founder and CEO Saurabh Kochhar said.

“We truly believe in Meddo’s omnichannel fulfilment-led approach and are excited to join this transformative journey. We are confident that our integration will enhance and improve clinical outcomes for clinicians and patients,” Doxper Co-founder and CEO Shailesh Prithani also stated.
