Mounting evidence illustrates the longevity-boosting benefits you can reap from following certain dietary patterns. A new study published in the journal PLOS illustrates the extent to which you can extend your lifespan by cutting down on meat and upping your plant intake. Leading gut health expert Doctor Megan Rossi spoke on ITV’s Lorraine this morning about how this approach can be easily implemented.
As Doctor Rossie noted, the “foundation” should be plants. It’s not necessarily about cutting out components but just adding in plants.
Legumes, for example, which include beans and pulses, provide different nutrients that feed different bacteria, she explained.
Citing the recent study’s findings, Doctor Rossie said adding legumes to your diet can “significantly add years to your life”.
The study found the optimal diet includes more legumes, whole grains and nuts, and less red and processed meat.
