Many health experts also recommend getting the flu vaccine before monsoon. However, the opinion of many experts differs.
Dr Sonia Rawat, Director, Department of Preventive Health and Wellness, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi, told News18 that the flu vaccine can prove to be very effective in protecting people from four flu viruses during the transition season. All people should get the flu vaccine once a year. Generally, the months of September to October are considered the best time for this vaccination but the vaccine can be given in summer as well. Getting a flu shot during this season cannot harm and boost people’s immunity.
Doctor Sonia Rawat said that getting a flu shot can reduce the risk of getting sick from the influenza virus by 40 to 60 per cent. This vaccine helps boost our immunity and proves to be effective in protecting against viral infections. However, the effect of the vaccine may vary depending on the health condition of each individual. People with comorbidities should get vaccinated. The effect of the vaccine lasts for about a year and people can get vaccinated after consulting a doctor.
