For those who have been waiting to buy a home stationary bike, Equinox has a major announcement: The company, which owns SoulCycle, now officially guarantees that the SoulCycle bike will deliver within three weeks.
While the bikes are generally delivered in one to three weeks anyway, that timeline is now a guarantee, Jacalyn Lee, head of PR and communications for Equinox Media, tells SELF. The delivery window guarantee comes as SoulCycle competitor Peloton faces complaints from frustrated customers who’ve been waiting for their bike for months, the New York Times reported. The at-home SoulCycle bike costs $2,500 or it can also be purchased in monthly installments of $64.10 over 39 months.
The news comes alongside the announcement of a huge upgrade to the Equinox app, now called Equinox+. Over the next few months, the app will bring integration with some popular fitness trackers, access to other premium workout brands, and personalized workout recommendations. (Equinox+ will replace Variis by Equinox, which debuted in March 2020; Variis subscribers will see their app automatically updated to Equinox+.)
Subscribers to Equinox+, which costs $40 a month, get unlimited on-demand access to an expanding library of live studio and recorded classes from Equinox, SoulCycle, and a variety of other fitness brands. That includes PURE Yoga, Precision Run (treadmill workouts), HeadStrong (guided meditations), Myodetox (recovery exercises), Rumble (boxing-inspired classes), TB12 (active recovery classes), and, starting February 23, CorePower (pilates-inspired resistance training). And, if for some reason your SoulCycle bike takes over three weeks to arrive, Lee says, you’ll get complimentary access to Equinox+ for six months.
The app upgrade also brings integration with health and fitness trackers. Starting in March, users will be able to link their Equinox+ account to the iPhone’s Apple HealthKit and Fitness apps, meaning the workouts you complete using the Equinox+ app will automatically be logged into those apps, Lee explains. Last year Apple released their own fitness platform, Apple Fitness+, and in the future, Equinox+ “will use Apple Fitness activities to further personalize Equinox+ Fitness guidance and recommendations,” according to an Equinox statement.
The new app will also integrate with WHOOP, a fitness tracker that monitors your recovery using data such as heart rate variability and sleep quality. That data will be fed into Equinox+ to help recommend workouts for you. So, for instance, the Equinox+ app might suggest a lower-intensity workout if WHOOP detects poor sleep quality the night before, Lee says.
A couple of other noteworthy features on the way: Beginning in March, users will be able to stream app content via smart TVs, iPads, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV. The music library and live studio class offerings will be expanding. And later this year, the app will make it easier for Equinox members (who get the app free) to get back to the gym, if it’s safe for them to do so. Members will be able to book in-person classes, training sessions, spa services, and more via the app, as well as automatically log in-person workouts in the app.
Of course, there’s no shortage of great workout apps for at-home exercisers. But the new Equinox app is a great addition to those choices.
