It’s been about four years since Dyson wowed us with its Dyson Airwrap Complete hair styler — the all-in-one styling device that uses high-velocity air technology to dry and de-frizz hair, as well as style it in any number of smooth and sleek or wavy and voluminous styles. Dyson has never been one to espouse the mantra of “do less,” so it’s no surprise that the brand is besting its own achievements with the announcement of a new (sort of) tool, called the Dyson Airwrap Multi-Styler that will launch this summer.
To recap, the original Airwrap is one of the biggest hair-care innovations that’s ever landed on shelves — it’s won a handful of Allure Best of Beauty and Readers’ Choice Awards, so trust that we’re already pretty big fans. Our former editor Cotton Codinha tested it, and had nothing but praise for its effects: “My fine hair, which usually droops without shellac, stayed tousled and voluminous well past dinner. I’d say the Airwrap taught an old dog new tricks — but I didn’t have to learn a thing.”
This multi-styling tool uses an aerodynamic technique called the Coanda effect that propels high-velocity air at just the right speed and pressure to create a spinning vortex around the styler’s attachments. This vortex funnels air in such a way that hair speedily transitions from straight-from-the-shower-drenched to dry. From there, you can wield any of the six different attachments that the Airwrap comes with to render hair as smooth or wavy as you’d like it: a pre-styling dryer, two sizes of Airwrap barrels for styling hair that include separate tips for clockwise and counterclockwise motions, along with three brush heads. Best of all, the Coanda effect uses less heat to minimize hair damage, so you won’t have to worry about frying your hair with any of these attachments.
Yes, the new Multi-Styler is the same Airwrap you know and love, but a generously expanded version of it, with a wide range of new attachment options at your disposal and enhanced Coanda technology. Though the original works on a range of hair types already, the goal of expanding the line was to encourage more personalization that’s inclusive of different hair-care needs (like the introduction of a wide-tooth comb attachment for curly and coily natural hair types). “Now, the tool does even more, allowing owners to personalize their styling preferences, according to their hair type,” Dyson global styling ambassador and hairstylist extraordinaire Jen Atkin said in a press release.
