Dr Amir urges pregnant women to get the Covid jab – ‘safer to get vaccine than Covid’

Dr Amir highlighted that hospital admission data shows that it’s “safer to get the vaccine than Covid”, as expectant mothers – who haven’t been fully jabbed – are needing hospital care after catching Covid. Right now, not one British mum-to-be – who has been fully vaccinated – has been admitted to hospital because of the notorious disease.

Meanwhile, 171 pregnant women – who have only had one jab, or aren’t vaccinated at all – have had to seek hospital care after catching the infection.

In fact, 98 percent of them have not had any vaccines while the remaining two percent have had only one Covid jab.

“I can understand how it’s an emotional decision for pregnant women [to get the vaccine],” Dr Amir said on ITV’s Lorraine.

“They want the best for themselves and the baby. They don’t want to do anything that might harm the baby,” he added.

“And it showed no damage to the placenta – the most important thing in pregnancy, [as] it brings the baby food and oxygen.”

Moreover, across the UK and US, 200,000 pregnant women have had the mRNA vaccine and they’ve been safe.

“The bottom line is, it is far more dangerous to get Covid while you’re pregnant – particularly in the later stages,” emphasised Dr Amir.

This is because a Covid infection in the third trimester “can increase your risk of miscarriage and still birth”.

Acknowledging that these are “really awful” situations, a Covid infection can include further complications, such as pneumonia for the pregnant woman.

“On balance, it’s safer to get the vaccine than to get Covid,” Dr Amir assured.

Professor Jonathan Van Tam – deputy chief medical officer – declared 60,000 lives have been saved thanks to the Covid jabs.

In addition, it’s been said 22 million Covid infections have been prevented.
