Chris Appleton’s TikTok-Viral Two-Step Messy Bun Hack Is a Game-Changer — See Video

We all know Chris Appleton for having the masterful hands that style the heads of Jennifer Lopez, Kim Kardashian, and Dua Lipa. In addition to his celebrity work, the British hairstylist also likes to share hairstyling tips on his TikTok account. On January 19, he posted an easy hack to get a messy bun in just 30 seconds. 

This messy updo only requires two steps that Appleton demonstrates in the video. First, he brushes his model’s blonde hair into a high ponytail. Then, he likes to pull at the hair in the front to loosen up the ponytail while making it look softer and less slicked-back. Now, it’s time for the messy bun magic. 

He splits the ponytail into two sections and ties the two pieces into a knot. He then creates another knot with the remaining hair before pinning the leftover ends of her hair around the bun. To finish, he brushes the baby hairs around her hairline with Color Wow’s Cult Favorite Firm + Flexible Hairspray and a tiny brush to lock them in place. He also pulls a few tendrils of hair right in front of her ears for a little more messiness. “It’s really detailed for not a lot of effort,” he says as he brushes around her hairline.
