Cerner Corp. is expanding its healthcare data and technology business with plans to acquire consultancy Kantar Health for $375 million, the companies said Wednesday.
Kantar Health, a division of Kantar Group, focuses primarily on data, analytics and research in the life science industry, but Cerner hopes to use their data more broadly to improve safety and efficacy, according to the companies’ announcement. It will look to foster collaboration between providers and drugmakers on clinical research.
Cerner this month also partnered with Elligo to expand clinical trial resources for rural and community health providers. The company hopes the data and arrangements will help their clients innovate in clinical research and find more effective treatments.
“Kantar Health has incredible health economics and medical affairs expertise, differentiated real-world data assets and strong relationships with the world’s leading life science companies,” Cerner’s President Donald Trigg said in a statement. “It offers us an amazing opportunity to drive cross-industry collaboration that can change health outcomes around the world.”
The acquisition is expected to close in the first half of 2021, subject to regulatory approval. Cerner said it will not have a material impact on its earnings, and it is paying cash for Kantar Health.
