Rodriquez thought she had surpassed the age limit for global beauty pageants, but her perspective shifted with the revised regulations.

A 60-year-old lawyer and journalist from La Plata, Alejandra Rodríguez was recently crowned Miss Universe Buenos Aires. She is shattering all stereotypes, marking a monumental shift in beauty pageants as the oldest Miss Universe contestant.

According to a report on Hola, Rodriquez thought she had surpassed the age limit for global beauty pageants, but her perspective shifted with the revised regulations. Initially, Miss Universe contestants had to be unmarried and childless, aged between 18 and 28, since its establishment in 1952. However, the pageant’s recent decision permits women aged 18 to 73 to participate, disregarding previous criteria.

The expansion of the maximum age limit was revealed in September last year and will take effect for the first time during the 2024 competition.

Gabriel, who won the Miss Universe title at the age of 28 in 2022, currently holds the record as the oldest contestant to achieve this honour.

The recently crowned Miss Buenos Aires shared with Argentinian television network El Trece that she pursued a career in journalism after high school before delving into law and eventually serving as a legal advisor for a hospital.

Kudos to her lifestyle and discipline, Rodriquez’s looks are still turning heads. “The basic thing is to have a healthy life, eat well, do physical activity,” she told the outlet. “Normal care, nothing too extraordinary, and a little genetics,” she said.

The 60-year-old said she stuck to her diet, which consisted of healthy eating.

“What I try to do is intermittent fasting, I think that helps a lot. Then I try to eat organic foods, a lot of fruit, a lot of vegetables, and use good creams,” she said.

Rodriquez said she worked out three times a week, mainly walking and some jogging, “I’m not extreme.”

Rodriquez’s win at the Miss Buenos Aires competition came from a pool of 35 contestants of various ages.

“We were 35 participants of all ages, from 18 to 73 years old was the oldest. There was no age category,” Rodriguez said.
