In fact, we learned they also apply everyday makeup in totally different ways. Driskell prefers a foundation-free look with just a touch of highlighter, while Dall’asen is a perfectionist about her foundation, concealer, contour, and brows. That’s why makeup isn’t a one-size-fits-all thing. How you choose to glam — or not — for the holidays is totally up to you.
Watch as Dall’asen makes blush the main character in her makeup look, extending it from the cheeks to the temples and all the way to the eyelids, while Driskell makes her eyes pop with a simple shimmery bronze eyeshadow. You’ll definitely want to take holiday makeup inspo from these two ladies — trust us.
Healthy Holiday Skin
Dermatologist Shari Marchbein, M.D., and associate digital beauty director Sarah Kinonen talk about healthy skin and how to fight signs of skin fatigue this season with the help of their favorite products. First, Marchbein gave us the scoop on what happens to our skin in the winter. “The second those temperatures drop and the humidity in the air drops, our skin literally starts leaching moisture out into the environment,” she said. “That causes dry and often itchy skin.”
Add in those amazing long, hot showers and hot air from indoor heaters, and your skin can get seriously dry. That’s why we have to switch up our skin care for the season just like we change up our wardrobes. Marchbein recommends a heavier moisturizer applied from head to toe, especially one with hydrating and repairing ingredients such as glycerin, petrolatum, hyaluronic acid, and dimethicone.
But what if you’re feeling all the dryness but you’re also dealing with breakouts? Unfortunately, acne doesn’t stop in colder weather, Marchbein said. Acne can flare up whenever there’s a change in temperature. Plus, the practice of wearing masks as well as stress from the holidays can make acne pop up during the season. Using St. Ives Spot Solution Treatment, with 2 percent salicylic acid and 100 percent natural tea tree extract, can help.
If your skin is both dry and acne-prone, Marchbein recommended the “sandwich method,” in which hydrating products are applied in between spot treatments for clear skin all winter. Watch the entire video to get the details.
