Amita Health was a joint operating company owned by Ascension and AdventHealth.

For Ascension Illinois, the move brings the facilities, previously known as Alexian Brothers Health System and Presence Health, under the Ascension name. The rebranding provides the national cache of 142 hospitals and 2,600 care sites belonging to Ascension, the system said in a statement.

“Working together as part of Ascension will allow Ascension Illinois to bring the knowledge and resources of thousands of medical professionals across the country to our own physicians and caregivers in order to improve care,” Keith Parrott, Ascension Illinois Ministry Market Executive said in the statement.  “Adding the Ascension name to our own reflects the strength of bringing the expertise of our national health care ministry to those we are privileged to serve in Illinois.”

Hospital names under the Ascension umbrella will be retained. Employed doctors and their teams will be part of Ascension Medical Group, one of the largest physician networks in the United States, the statement said.

AdventHealth, the Seventh Day Adventist-founded national health system is renaming its four Amita-named medical centers as AdventHealth.

“We are excited to rebrand the operations of our hospitals in Chicagoland and operate as a fully integrated and distinguishable health system across all aspects of the care continuum,” Terry Shaw, AdventHealth president/CEO said in a separate statement. “We will continue to serve the community with a focus on whole-person care and making access easy and convenient for our consumers.”

AdventHealth has appointed Thor Thordarson as president/CEO for the Great Lakes Region of AdventHealth, which includes the facilities and medical groups in Illinois, the statement said. Thordarson previously served as AMITA Health’s chief operating officer.
