A 15-Minute Total-Body Seated Yoga Flow To Loosen Your Muscles

If you’re of a certain age, the idea of chair yoga might bring back memories of the “Sit and Be Fit” commercials from the ’90s, which mostly featured the elderly. But chair yoga can be for anyone of any age, shape, gender, etc. to participate in. It’s a super accessible form of yoga, in fact, that should make everyone feel welcome to the practice, even if headstands are never going to happen for them. And on the latest episode of Good Moves, BK Yoga Club co-founder Paris Alexander demonstrates just how fun (and sexy!) it can be to get fit while you sit.

“Today we are going to be doing some chair yoga, and you can do this within the comfort of your own home or at the office,” she says. “What’s great about this is you literally take a quick 10- to 15-minute break and just do some really cool chair stretches.”

The chair is both a crutch and a prop. It can help those with no yoga experience balance more easily, those with certain disabilities participate in the practice more generally, and give those who just want to stretch their bodies in the middle of the workday an easily accessible way of doing so—no mat, blocks, or other special equipment required.

This particular chair flow is gentle, and Alexandra encourages self-care throughout. “Maybe give yourself some love, a nice little massage,” she says at one point in the flow. “It’s honoring tenderness in our bodies.”

That’s a message few of us can’t ever hear quite enough. Press play to try your hand (butt?) at this 15-minute chair yoga flow.
