Mindbody recently revealed their annual Wellness Index, a survey that helps pinpoint trends in wellness from the past year and predict what will trend in the new year. In short, the survey revealed what matters most in wellness to nearly 20,000 people.

According to the survey, almost half of people in the U.S. have prioritized skin care in 2021. More than a third of those surveyed said they seek guidance on their daily regimen from beauty establishments. Facial exercises like FaceGym or face yoga were a popular trend last year, with three in 10 people said they partake in facial exercises or want to.

Whether done manually with the hands or via microcurrent devices, facial exercises help to tone and sculpt your face muscles. A research letter published in JAMA Dermatology in 2018 found that women who did 30 minutes of facial yoga exercises a few times a week looked almost three years younger in just 20 weeks. According to Mindbody, demand has been so high for facial exercise classes that businesses have had to expand their offerings. Yoga NW offers weekly virtual face yoga classes that help tone the muscles in your face and neck. DesiredFace hosts hour-long interactive online sessions that educate attendees on different daily facial exercises.

Unsurprisingly, 2021 also saw an increased interest in immune health. Per the survey, more than half of the U.S. population is now more focused on their health and wellness because they want to boost their immune system to help them combat illness.

Many people also became interested in intellectual wellness and sought to learn new skills, challenge the mind and explore concepts they’d not interacted with before. Stimulating tactile activities like pottery and painting were popular mediums to enhance intellectual wellness.

After the past couple of years we’ve had, it’s no surprise that mental health was ranked the most important aspect of wellness by most people in the U.S. Various wellness routines can impact your mental health, including exercise, yoga, acupuncture, beauty treatments and even grooming.

Sexual wellness is on the rise as nearly three in 10 people said they’re very likely to experiment with new wellness activities related to sex, such as individual or group therapy sessions, workshops, sexual performance therapies, and treatments for sexual health.
