On Thursday morning, September 2, TV actor and Bigg Boss season 13 winner Siddharth Shukla died after suffering from a heart attack. The untimely demise of the 40-year-old talented and young actor has left many shocked.
According to a report in The Indian Express, Dr Subhendu Mohanty, head and senior consultant, a cardiologist at Sharda Hospital in Greater Noida said that heart diseases such as heart attack and cardiac arrest among people in the younger age group have become more common than it was 10-15 years ago.
“In the past two-three years, we have witnessed rising cases of heart attacks, so much so that we have seen heart attacks even in the age bracket of 18 and 20,” Dr Mohanty further said.
The causes of fatal cardiac arrest range from lifestyle to genetic. In India, several families have a history of health issues that can increase the chances of heart diseases such as diabetes, abdominal obesity, low good cholesterol and high triglycerides. As per reports, many Indians suffer from cholesterol problems owing to low High-Density Lipoprotein (HDL).
If the causes are looked at from the lifestyle point of view, the most important reason behind this is the regularity of smoking among younger age groups. The second reason can be the high tension level that most young professionals suffer from and less physical activity or inactive lifestyle that many people lead can be the cause.
The doctor says that regular physical activity is important for all age groups for at least 30-45 mins, five days a week. Cardio exercises, including running, cycling, swimming, etc, benefit your heart. One should take small breaks from work and spend time with your friends and family. Keep yourself away from the internet for a while at least. Smoking and drinking have to be stopped completely. Mental health is important. Overall, eat good and take good care of yourself.
