The UK’s vaccine rollout has been highly successful. Now all those aged 50 and over as well as the clinically vulnerable are expected to be offered a Pfizer booster shot as part of the Government’s new vaccination drive. This push to get the most at risk from Covid-19 vaccinated comes as the majority of adults have now received at least one dose of the vaccine.
The Pfizer vaccines are expected to be used in the booster programme as it’s the jab is considered to be the most effective against Delta variant.
The vaccine programme is predicted to start in September, all those eligible will be encouraged to take up the jab.
Despite fears over the effectiveness of existing vaccines against new variants, a new study published this week has revealed a third dose of Pfizer offers strong protection against the delta variant.
The thought to be planning to vaccinate 23 million in its booster scheme this September.
The Department of Health said there was “no update” on the booster scheme when approached by Express.co.uk for confirmation.

In comparison the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine was found to be 92 percent effective against hospitalisation after 2 doses.
A booster dose of the Pfizer vaccine on top of the two vaccines previously given was found to be particularly effective at boosting immunity among the elderly.
Booster shots of Pfizer were found to increase antibody levels 11-fold among people those aged 65 to 85.
