Although we stayed inside all year, “Zoom face” is real, hence the uptick in a wide variety of facial plastic surgery requests we’ve reported throughout the 2020. However, a new survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) shows us specifically which procedures have topped patient’s lists this past year.
The 2019 ASDS Survey on Dermatologic Procedures was sent to 3,853 practicing members, and found that ASDS members performed nearly 14 million procedures in 2019 compared to 7.8 million in 2012. Of all the procedures, laser, light and energy-based treatments came in as most-requested with more than 4.1 million treatments performed. According to the report, wrinkles, sun damage and facial redness continue to take the cake for types of conditions treated by these devices.
As anticipated, freezing fine lines with injectable treatments was another top procedure, as 2.3 million neuromodulator treatments were performed in the last year. This trend has only increased over the years, with a 78-percent increase in injectable filler treatments and a 60-percent increase in wrinkle-relaxing injections since 2012.
Body-sculpting procedures were yet another heavy-hitter, coming in as the fourth most-popular procedure in 2019. Per the survey, these procedures include treatments like fat-freezing or injectables that help tighten the skin and remove fat. The three top treatments: laser lipolysis, which uses energy to melt body fat; microfocused ultrasound to tighten the skin; and tumescent liposuction, which utilizes local anesthesia to remove fat.
