June Shannon appeared ready to leave her ‘abusive’ boyfriend Geno Doak during the season premiere of Mama June: Road to Redemption, which aired Friday on WeTV.
The reality TV star, 42, asked producers to meet her at a hotel in Alabama where she was hiding, after walking away from an ‘abusive relationship.’
‘For the first time, I walked away from an abusive relationship,’ she told a crew member, adding, ‘I’m away from that situation. And that’s all that matters.’

However, it wasn’t clear if she had permanently left Geno, 46, because when a producer asked whether she broke up with him, she replied saying: ‘No. What I’m fixin’ to tell y’all may piss off some people.’
The show then ended on a cliff hanger, as Mama June stated, ‘The last few months have been probably the worst time in my life. And well, I think I need to let y’all know something.’
When June asked to meet with production, it was after a three week hiatus, during which nobody was able to reach her, not even her daughter Lauryn Efrid (aka Pumpkin), 22, who had given birth to her son Bentley a week prior.

Safe: ‘For the first time, I walked away from an abusive relationship,’ she told a crew member, adding, ‘I’m away from that situation. And that’s all that matters’
‘You know, there’s a lot that happened behind closed doors that a lot of people don’t know. My life has been, like, turned inside out. Went from hell and back again. And I mean, I’m just tired of lying and hiding.’
‘Can you tell me why you’re in a hotel in Alabama away from everyone?’ a producer asked.
‘You know, Geno has no idea where I’m at. And I would prefer y’all not to tell him that,’ June replied.
She then detailed the night she decided to leave Geno – who she introduced to viewers as her boyfriend in Season 2 of Mama June: From Not to Hot.
Unclear: However, it wasn’t clear if she had permanently left Geno, 46, because when a producer asked whether they broke up, she said, ‘No. What I’m fixin’ to tell y’all may piss off some people’

In 2019, the couple were arrested following a domestic dispute, and shortly after, Geno and Mama June were charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
June described how she left Geno: ‘I mean, I don’t know what was different about a few nights ago, but he went to sleep… He passed out because he was drunk. And I packed a bag, it’s a small bag, enough to know that I had clothes for a few days and I’ll figure it out. I left.’
‘I got an Uber. I’m gonna be honest with you. I’ve tried this a few times before, and I talked myself out of it,’ she said.
‘I should have left him after his last court date, but I didn’t because I was hoping that things would change. I mean, but his drinking got worse. The verbal abuse, always made excuses that when he wasn’t drinking, things were good.’
First attempt: Earlier in the show, she attempted to leave Geno during his court date, and told Pumpkin that she would feel safer leaving the relationship with the sheriff present
Staying: Eventually she went back on her word and decided to stay after learning that he would not be getting arrested that day

‘And they were, but, you know, I was ruining myself emotionally, mentally, having to worry about my sobriety because, in my mind, the devil was right here saying, you know, “If you use, you don’t have to feel these feelings.” Or, “Hey, if you go get cocaine, you don’t have to feel these feelings.” But I chose to say, “No, you’re not gonna win this battle. I’ve got this.” And so I walked away.’
June then referred to her life as a ‘train wreck’ and said, ‘I’m not gonna lie to you. The last few months have been probably the worst time in my life.’
Earlier in the show, she had attempted to stage a break-up with Geno during his court date, and told Pumpkin that she would feel safer leaving the relationship with the sheriff present, but eventually went back on her word and decided to stay.
Sweet: The sixth season started out at Pumpkin and her husband Josh’s spacious new house, as they awaited the birth of their second child
Taking care of the family: Also living in the home was her daughter Ella, four, and her sisters, Alana Thompson (aka Honey Boo Boo), 16 (left) and Jessica Shannon (aka Chubbs), 25 (right)
The sixth season started out at Pumpkin and her husband Josh’s spacious new house, as they awaited the birth of their second child.
Also living in the home was her daughter Ella, four, and her sisters, Alana Thompson (aka Honey Boo Boo), 16, and Jessica Shannon (aka Chubbs), 25.
‘Now that I’m taking care of Alana, Ella, Jessica, Josh, and another baby’s on the way, we definitely needed an upgrade. So we used a little bit of our savings to move into something bigger knowing that it would fit everyone. This house, it’s got a nice big yard and a great space for the family to hang out,’ Pumpkin explained.
Complaining: Mama June was seen calling Pumpkin to complain about Geno’s drinking
Boozing it up: ‘I need to just get some s*** off my chest. I’m about tired of Geno’s s***. He’s been drinking, like, all day today, and 30, 40 beers,’ she told her daughter
‘You know what my favorite part about this house is, boo?’ Josh asked his wife.
‘What, babe?’
‘The most favorite thing in the world, your mother’s not here,’ he replied.
‘I really haven’t talked to Mama much or even really seen her since her court case. But I mean, every time that I hear from her, sometimes it’s late at night, and I’m not really sure what’s going on with her and Geno because it seems like something’s happening,’ Pumpkin stated.
Mama June then called Pumpkin to complain about Geno’s drinking.
Defensive: However when Pumpkin pointed out it wasn’t an ideal situation since June was sober and Geno was not, her mom got defensive
Stressful situation: ‘Pumpkin, when he isn’t drinking, things do get a little bit better for the time being… Until the next time he drinks’
‘I need to just get some s*** off my chest. I’m about tired of Geno’s s***. He’s been drinking, like, all day today, and 30, 40 beers. Now he’s drinking wine. And I thought that maybe he can change and maybe things will be better when we got sober, but it’s not. He finally put them aside and f****** passed out.’
‘Well, because there’s a big difference. You’re sober. He’s not,’ Pumpkin pointed out.
June was then seen telling the viewers in a private segment: ‘Things have been really messed up between me and Geno the last couple months. But I didn’t want to tell the girls what was really going on because I didn’t want to hear, “I told you so.”‘
‘But it’s getting out of control now to where I need help, that I need to say, “Hey, I’m scared. I don’t know what to do. I need the family’s support.”‘

Support: ‘But it’s getting out of control now to where I need help, that I need to say, “Hey, I’m scared. I don’t know what to do. I need the family’s support”‘
‘Pumpkin, when he isn’t drinking, things do get a little bit better for the time being… Until the next time he drinks.’
‘Right, and when is that? The next f***** day? He’s drinking and he’s drunk tonight and getting on your f***** nerves. But then tomorrow, he’ll be like, “Oh, I love you,” and you’ll be like, “Oh, things are better. Things are better.”‘
‘That’s what you always f***** say. I mean, you stayed in a f***** toxic relationship with f***** Sugar Bear. It’s just, like, what you’re known for,’ Pumpkin went on, referring to Mike Thompson (aka Sugar Bear), June’s ex fiancé and Alana’s father.
‘Not at all surprised that Geno fell off the wagon and started drinking. But what does concern me is that Mama’s only been sober for a short amount of time. And I’m scared that that may make her slip back into old habits,’ Pumpkin said in a separate segment.
Break away: June then asked her pregnant daughter to come to Geno’s upcoming court date, where she was going to ‘break away’ from him
June then asked her to come to Geno’s upcoming court date, where she was going to ‘break away’ from him. ‘The sheriff would be there. There’d be law enforcement there, like, everything, so I can just walk away.
‘Don’t know how to walk away from Geno in a safe manner. I’m hoping that the judge kind of sees what’s up and takes care of it by his self so I don’t have to make that decision and worry about my safety because I am kinda scared about how the situation could turn out. I don’t feel safe around him. I’m just having the court day just wipe my hands, let me just leave him,’ she stated.
Pumpkin was then seen meeting with her aunt Doe Doe, June’s sister, for lunch, where she complained about how much ‘stress’ her mother causes her.
‘When’s it gonna stop with Mama, you know? She’s just been calling me late at night, and apparently Geno’s been getting so drunk. Like, passing out.’
Aunt’s help: Pumpkin was then seen meeting with her aunt Doe Doe, June’s sister, for lunch, where she complained about how much ‘stress’ her mother causes her
She’s had it: ‘When’s it gonna stop with Mama, you know? She’s just been calling me late at night, and apparently Geno’s been getting so drunk. Like, passing out’
‘I mean, in all honestly, at some point, drinking’s not gonna be enough,’ Doe Doe chimed in.
‘Cause the last time, when they first started doing drugs, he started drinking real bad, and then he picked up on the drugs,’ Pumpkin replied.
‘I just hope he doesn’t pull June in,’ Doe Doe said, adding, ‘She does what she wants, when she wants, how she wants, with who she wants. And there’s never a consequence. She doesn’t get time for what she’s done.’
Angry: Doe Doe was angry at June’s lackluster parenting and having Pumpkin raise her sisters ‘She’s June, and she’s gonna come back like nothing’s ever happened’
‘And, hell, let’s not even raise my kids. We’re gonna put it off on my other daughter to raise the children, so, you know, she’s June, and she’s gonna come back like nothing’s ever happened. I mean, you know I’m going to the court date regardless. I’ve been to every one. She needs to have somebody there,’ Doe Doe said.
However, when Geno was not put in jail during his court visit, because his hearing date got pushed, June decided to stay with him. ‘I don’t want either me or y’all to be in danger,’ she explained to Pumpkin and Doe Doe.
However, in a solo segment Pumpkin told the viewers, ‘Now I’m back into a predicament where I’ve been telling you for months, almost years now, that you need to leave that toxic relationship and you still want to be stuck in it. So at this point, that’s on you.’
Frustrated: Pumpkin and Doe Doe were frustrated with June for not leaving Geno during the court hearing
Boy who cried wolf: ‘You just can’t keep being the boy that cried wolf…’ Pumpkin told June, adding, ‘Mama, if you want to get away from him, you would have already done it though’
Scary: On the drive home Doe Doe was heard saying: ‘It’s the Geno addiction. And that’s the one that’s gonna end up killing her’
‘You just can’t keep being the boy that cried wolf…’ Pumpkin then told June, adding, ‘Mama, if you want to get away from him, you would have already done it though.’
‘It’s just aggravating because like you don’t have to deal with it, right? You don’t have to deal with it. I have to deal with Alana, I have to deal with f****** Ella, like, you don’t – there’s a lot of stuff that you don’t think about, bro.’
When June insisted that it wasn’t easy to leave, Pumpkin replied: ‘So you just continue to put yourself through physical and mental f****** abuse from him.’
‘Not physical. He ain’t put his hands on me,’ June replied, to which Pumpkin replied, ‘Oh, he’s never put his hands on you, but when y’all got arrested, that’s the reason y’all got arrested because you called the law.’
Tough: Pumpkin was then seen having a conversation with Alana, explaining what took place in court
Confused: ‘How is she gonna sit there and call you every night talking all that junk, how “Oh, I’m gonna leave him. I’m gonna leave him,” and then not do it’
Pumpkin and Doe Doe then drove home. In the car Doe Doe was heard saying: ‘It’s the Geno addiction. And that’s the one that’s gonna end up killing her.’
Pumpkin was then seen having a conversation with Alana, explaining what took place in court.
‘How is she gonna sit there and call you every night talking all that junk, how “Oh, I’m gonna leave him. I’m gonna leave him,” and then not do it,’ Alana asked.
‘I’m starting to believe Mama’s not really gonna get her s*** together,’ she said, before adding, ‘I guess not all folks are made to be parents.’
Baby number two: In a happier part of the show, Pumpkin was seen in the hospital after giving birth to Bentley
Missed it: However, June missed the birth of her first grandson, and was not there to see Bentley come home from the hospital either

‘I just can’t believe Mama’s not here to see Bentley come home,’ Pumpkin said, before it was revealed that nobody had heard from June and she had ‘disappeared.’
Shortly after, production learned she was hiding in an Alabama hotel after finally leaving Geno.
