Usually, people make a lot of their travel plans to cold weather places around this time, to get away from the scorching heat. Hill stations have become a common spot for people to visit in the summer season. They have, thus, become overcrowded. One such place in Tamil Nadu that is getting popular is the Vairavanar stream, a tributary of the Suruliyar river that is flowing near Periyar Power House.
As per reports, the Vairavanar River is a wonderful tourist spot near the lower camp area in Theni district. Although not many people from Tamil Nadu visit this area, Kerala residents and tourists who ride jeeps from the nearby Kumily area are often spotted spending their time here. The water released from the Mullaperiyar dam goes to five districts through Lower Camp. Vairavanaru is where the water discharged from the Mullaperiyar dam passes through the lower camp area. The water disseminating with great force looks beautiful when it hits the narrow bridge and exits from there. The water flows in a triangular direction, making it an attractive site for tourists.
Even though many tourists from the Kerala region come and spend time in this area, this spot is full of danger. This is mainly because the water flows at very high speed from the Mullaperiyar dam. Apart from that, the volume of water is already very high, and during the rainy season, there is an overflow of water, causing a flood-like situation in the area. Due to the water flowing in the Vairavanar area, there is also a loud noise of water that can be heard in the areas near Lower Camp. The bridge at Vairavanar dam is also dangerously made with no handrails. Tourists coming to the area are advised to be very careful as there is high water flow in this area and the bridge is in a dangerous condition.
