Jennifer Lopez has pretty much worn every hairstyle that you could possibly think of — the high half-up ponytail, the messy bun, the wet-look lob — and plenty more, of course. In a recent video promoting her new movie, Marry Me, the singer wore a hairstyle that we have yet to see on her: an extra-long braided ponytail that falls slightly below her chest.
Lopez’s über-long braid made a brief appearance in a video that was posted to Marry Me‘s Instagram on January 10 (you can check out J.Lo’s braided pony in all its glory right here). In the video, J.Lo and her co-star, Maluma, break down the movie’s plot within a span of 60-seconds, which is why we only get to see J.Lo’s extra-long braid within the first few seconds of the video and towards the end.
We did some intense digging into JLo’s recent hair history so you don’t have to, and not a single photo or video on Lopez’s Instagram shows her wearing a ponytail of this sort. She is known for wearing long, sleek ponytails on the red carpet — like she did at the Grammy Awards in 2019 — but we’re pretty firm that this braided pony is a first for the singer and founder of JLo Beauty. As for the styles that she’s most loyal to, you’ll often find her wearing curtain bangs and sleek updos.

Even though the extra-long braided ponytail appears to be new to Lopez, the hairstyle itself is nothing new. Members of the Kardashian family — Kim and Khloé specifically — have famously taken a liking to the lengthy look.
