World Veterinary Day is a special day to thank and celebrate the hard work and dedication of veterinarians.
World Veterinary Day is celebrated every year on the last Saturday of April. This year it will fall on April 27, 2024. The day aims to mark the importance of veterinary doctors who work on improving animal lives. It is observed globally through various activities such as seminars, workshops, educational sessions, and campaigns. It provides an opportunity to recognise and appreciate the veterinarians towards animal health, welfare, and the general well-being of society.

The theme for 2024 World Veterinary Day is “Veterinarians are essential health workers”.
World Veterinary Day History
World Veterinary Day was first celebrated on April 29, 2000 by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) to recognise and promote the role of veterinarians. On this day, veterinary organisations globally organise events and activities to honour the individuals involved in animal welfare.
World Veterinary Day Significance
Veterinarians play an important role in environmental protection and sustainability. They work for the welfare of animals in different situations, including farms, zoos, and wildlife habitats.
This day encourages people to learn about the disease that spreads from the animals and the need to routinely immunize their pets. The day is to recognise and support vets around the world for their excellent work.
The World Veterinary Association and Global Medicines Association give an annual award to a World Veterinary Association member. The award is only given to those who work as per the theme of the World Veterinary Association.
