Nice Healthcare, a Minneapolis-based video and in-home primary care provider, has raised $5 million in seed funding, MedCity News reports. The funding was headed by Waterline Ventures, and also saw participation from Conductive Ventures and Indie.vc.
WHAT IT DOES
Offered through employers, Nice Healthcare’s business uses a patient mobile app to schedule primary care virtual visits. These can be conducted over video or through text chat, and Nice’s providers can write a prescription for the patient if necessary.
Depending on their medical issue, enrollees also have the option to have a provider visit them at home, “typically within a few hours,” according to the company. Nice’s providers are able to administer blood draws, labs and X-rays during these encounters.
Patients receive these services without needing to pay any fees out of pocket. The service is currently accepting clients in Minnesota, Idaho, Iowa, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Wisconsin, Colorado and Nebraska, at rates somewhere between $27 to $36 per employee per month.
WHAT IT’S FOR
The company said that it’s expanding its reach and offerings by next year. Per its website, the company is looking to push into new markets, and will be adding virtual physical therapy and more than 550 common prescriptions to its available services.
MARKET SNAPSHOT
When it comes to the blend of home visits and virtual care, Heal is among the better known names. Founded in 2015 as a house call coordination platform, the service has expanded to handle back-end administrative work, integrate personal health-record tools such as Apple Health and, as of last year, offer telehealth follow-up appointments. It most recently collected a $100 million investment from Humana.
At the same time, a number of startups are blending primary care services with patient-friendly digital components. Among such companies that have recently announced fundings are SteadyMD, 98point6 and K Health.
