Weight loss: Five ways to stay fit at home during lockdown according to personal trainer

With government coronavirus advice urging Britons to stay indoors it can be difficult to stick to a healthy exercise and diet plan. As gyms across the country have closed, a personal trainer shared her top tips on how to stay healthy at home.

While fitness fanatics might have had to change their diet and exercise routine, all is not lost.

The coronavirus lockdown has brought in strict instructions to stay indoors but slimmers can still fit a workout.

There are plenty of exercise plans that can be followed without leaving the living room.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, co-founder of RWL – formerly Results With Lucy – Cecilia Harris shared her tips on how to stay healthy at home.

Make exercise part of your daily routine

Putting aside time each day specifically for exercise can be a great way to stay on track, the expert suggested.

Cecilia said: “Carve out a time and treasure it, this is dedicated, non-negotiable you time.”

Get in the zone

“Switch into fitness mode by clearing a dedicated space, putting on workout gear and playing energising music,” she added.

By picking a set location for workouts to take place, Cecilia explained Britons stuck at home can help feel motivated.

Workout with others

Social distancing has stopped Britons going to their usual gym classes but this does not mean they need to workout alone.

Those hoping to get fit can exercise with family members at home or by doing live workouts online at the same time as others.

Cecilia said: “Whether you wrangle your partner, family members or you’re joining thousands of others in an RWL live workout, fitness is always more fun together.”

Start your day right

Setting good intentions at the beginning of each day will help keep slimmer on track with their fitness goals.

Doing this can also help stop unhealthy cravings from arising throughout the day.

The expert said: “Whether it’s a walk outside, a moment of meditation or a cup of tea, find the thing that sets you in good stead for the day.”

Keep communicating

As well as keeping up fitness goals, the expert shared the importance on your health of staying in touch with loved ones when spending time apart.

Cecilia explained: “Connect with friends and family often and check how they are doing; we can get through this together.”

Following the steps can help slimmers keep fit while staying at home.
