The Bachelor’s Matthew Agnew reveals he hasn’t touched alcohol in two years

Former The Bachelor star Matthew Agnew is celebrating a major milestone.

On Wednesday, the 34-year-old announced he stopped drinking alcohol two years ago. 

Alongside a picture of himself smiling proudly, the TV personality and Astrophysicist wrote: ‘I haven’t spoken much publicly about the choice I made 2 years ago, but I was proud of myself for hitting this milestone and wanted to share.’

‘Everyone has their reasons for choosing not to drink alcohol. For me, drinking was putting an ever increasing strain on my mental health. I’ve felt much better making the choice to avoid it altogether.’

He said he wanted to break the stigma around quitting booze. 

‘Alcohol is the only substance that people will ask why you *don’t* do it,’ he wrote.

‘I think it’s important to remind everyone that of course there’s no problems in having a drink, but equally there’s no problems in not having a drink either. Whatever the reason. Cheers to that.’

Matt’s post was quickly inundated with messages of congratulations from fellow media personalities.

‘Yessss! To all of this! Good on you. You must feel bloody great,’vwrote The Bachelorette’s Angie Kent, 30.

‘Awesome Matt, 2 years is huge!!’ model Olivia Molly Rogers,30, commented.

‘Yessss!!! amazing Matt… cheers to that x,’ I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of here alumni Alli Simpson, 23, added.

Meanwhile, Matt’s close pal and The Bachelor host Osher Günsberg shared his own experience with sobriety.

‘Happy birthday mate. 12 years for me last week xx,’ he wrote.

In the past, Osher, 47, revealed that while he had reached more than a decade without a drink, he still has to be ‘so careful’ every day. 

‘I watch my input of what I look at, read and listen to, and also the people spend time with. I have to be so careful with that,’ he told Body + Soul in 2020.

At the time, he said even something as simple as playing a video game could send him spiralling down a dark path.

‘I know I’m an addict. I’m an alcoholic. I don’t have addictive things in my house,’ he said.

‘I haven’t owned a gaming console since 2008, because I know that I’ll lose myself in one of those games,’ he added.
