The BBC and HBO production is a wild and punky tale of a mother’s love for her daughter, of deep-rooted and passionate friendships, and of brilliance thwarted by poverty and prejudice.

Told with a dark lick of humour and an anarchic attitude, it follows the Rain Dogs; a makeshift family fed on defiance and chaos, and a deep but complicated love.

The series centres on Costello, a writer and single mother with a rock and roll swagger that appreciates the glamour of the gutter but would do anything to keep her daughter, Iris (Fleur Tashjian) from it.

A release date for Rain Dogs has yet to be announced.

Jack will no doubt be pleased to play another villianous character after making his name in Poldark.

Despite playing a villian, he previously told The Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine that the public were ‘lovely’ when they recognised him.

He explained: ‘People love to hate, don’t they? I get a lot of people saying, “Ooh! You wrong ’un!” But nobody spits at me or boos me.’

He added: ‘That would sort of be lovely if you had people spitting at you, wouldn’t it? It would mean you had really got under their skin.’

Most recently, Jack starred as Prince Charles in the Princess Diana biopic, Spencer.

Twilight actress Kristen Stewart starred as the late Princess of Wales in the flick which focuses on a weekend in the early 1990s when Diana decided her marriage to Charles was over.

Oxford-educated Jack’s previous credits also include George Balfour in The Riot Club, Andy Dumfries in Official Secrets, starring Matt Smith and Keira Knightley, and Marc Fisher in the Netflix romantic comedy Love Wedding Repeat.
