Paige Spara Shares “The Good Doctor” Spoilers and All the Reasons She Loves Kim Kardashian’s Skin-Care Line
As the sixth season of “The Good Doctor” gets underway, fan-favorite Paige Spara—she plays Lily opposite Freddie Highmore’s Shaun Murphy—shares what we can expect from the popular drama, the personal reasons that drew her to the role, and why she really, really loves SKKN BY KIM right now.
What can we kind of expect as we go into this week’s show?
“Well, the premiere picked up right at Shaun and Lily’s wedding, and chaos ensued…I wonder how much I’m allowed to say! I think I’m allowed to say this: Another nurse is tragically hurt, we all are pulled from the wedding, and the hospital is in lockdown. We all are there for one another trying to save someone’s life…so it’s safe to say the wedding is cut very much short.”
The show has done a lot raising autism awareness. Did that draw you to the role?
“Yes, absolutely. One of my best friends is on the spectrum and that definitely drew me to it; I really wanted to be a part of the conversation of someone who’s on the spectrum and someone who’s not on the spectrum can come forth and have a relationship. I really wanted to explore what that looks like and what that can be like and put that out there in the world as part of that. I was really excited to be a part of that for sure.”
And then your character is very into IT and technology. Are you like that in real life?
“Absolutely not! I’m 33, and if I can’t figure out how to hook my laptop to my TV, I will give up. I’m a really good quitter when it comes to technology.”
I can relate. Do you have any beauty moments on-set that help you get into character?
“I don’t even know how much beauty this is…but I guess it’s more of a mental thing. We all get so giddy seeing each other and we usually jump up and down and talk for a few minutes before we get into our work, and we play with my dog. Since I’m one of the only non-doctors on the show, I sort of have more time to myself—those of us who don’t play doctors aren’t a part of the machine with the prep. The rest of the cast has to do this whole other thing getting ready with the prep and scheduling when they’re in the E.R.
Right now, I’m using Kim Kardashian’s beauty line [SKKN BY KIM], and I’m absolutely obsessed with it. Of course, right, because if Kim Kardashian is saying put this on your skin, I’m in! I like feeling like I’m a Kardashian as well. It’s really nice—it cleared up my skin. I love it, and it wears really well under the makeup I have to wear on-camera.”
That’s a huge testimonial. What do you do to unwind after these heavy scenes and long days?
“I journal every night before I go to bed and every morning to empty my brain and my emotions. I find that really helps balance me and allows me to just go into sleep.”
What else are you excited about this fall?
“I’m in Vancouver right now. That’s where we film. Noah Galvin—he’s an actor who plays a doctor on our show—is one of my best friends and we love traveling around B.C. and finding really cool Airbnbs in locations we’ve never been to. For example, this weekend, we’re going a little bit two hours north to a town called Pemberton, somewhere in the mountains. I’m excited to venture around B.C. in my off time.”
