Natasha Denona Zendo Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Zendo

Natasha Denona Zendo 15-Pan Small Eyeshadow PaletteNatasha Denona Zendo 15-Pan Small Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.67 oz.) contains a real assortment of finishes: four cream-powders, four creamy mattes, two duochromes, and five metallics–or eight mattes and seven shimmers effectively. There was a good mix of light and dark shades across the finishes, and the spectrum of shades, while still warmer and more pink/orange leaning, did have some pops of color (pretty much the two right-most columns) that helped to stretch the types of looks one could create with the palette.

The majority of the eyeshadows were pigmented, long-wearing, blendable, and easy to work with. Breath was the “worst” of the bunch, as it was a little drier but not a real miss.

Mindful (374CP)

Mindful (374CP) is a rich, medium-dark brown with strong, warm orange undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had a bit of shine to it initially, but the more I blended it out, the less obvious that shine was, though it wasn’t as matte as a true matte would be. The texture was lightly emollient to the touch and felt slightly spongy compared to the creamy matte formula in the palette, but it acted and seemed powder-like as soon as it came into contact with my skin. This shade yielded opaque color coverage in a single layer, which wore nicely for nine hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

The majority of the brand’s eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they’re applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.

Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted–it is a bit more yielding now.

Luster (375M)

Luster (375M) is a bright, golden copper with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had rich pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was moderately dense but not too firmly-pressed into the pan nor was it thick on my lid. The eyeshadow lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Balance (376CM)

Balance (376CM) is a light-medium brown with moderate, warm undertones–slightly more golden–paired with a matte finish. It had a smooth, velvety consistency that was a smidgen powdery in the pan but not in practice as it wasn’t prone to fallout. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and blended out well. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Flow (377M)

Flow (377M) is a faded, light blue with subtle, cool undertones and a metallic finish with faint gold and blue pearl. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single stroke, which was easily built up to full coverage with less than a second layer. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable with it feeling slightly drier than some other metallics by the brand. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Mantra (378CP)

Mantra (378CP) is a deep green with neutral-to-cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The texture was smooth to the touch, but it had a light glide to it that made it feel like a cream-powder hybrid (as expected). It worked better with denser brushes, like a pencil brush, for initial pick up and lay down of color but blended out well with fluffier brushes for a diffused effect. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer. There were signs of fading present after nine hours of wear.

Aura (379DC)

Aura (379DC) is a brighter, medium-dark orange-coral with lighter, gold pearl woven to give it more of a pearl-like sheen. It was less metallic/shimmery than most of the brand’s shimmer for reference. It had opaque color coverage with a smooth, slightly firmer texture that applied evenly and blended out well. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading a bit.

Vigor (380CM)

Vigor (380CM) is a muted, medium-dark red with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was drier, thinner, and a bit more prone to fallout compared to other shades in the palette–it wasn’t as silky-smooth as most of the brand’s mattes have been. The product still yielded nearly opaque coverage in one layer and was buildable. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Relief (381CM)

Relief (381CM) is a bright, medium coral with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It leaned just-slightly pink but was still on the warmer side compared to true pink-coral hues. The texture was soft, slightly powdery in the pan but blendable and not prone to fallout on my lid. This shade had opaque color payoff that wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Equilibrium (382M) has a blackened plum base with charcoal gray and bluish-teal shimmer throughout. The more blended it was, the less teal it appeared, but the more packed on it was, the more blackened-teal it appeared. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and moderately dense without being too thick, which yielded full color coverage with ease. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Formula Overview

$29.00/0.08 oz. – $362.50 Per Ounce

Breath (383CP)

Breath (383CP) is a very light, mint green with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which was somewhat buildable, but the texture was a slightly thicker and a touch drier than most of the cream-powder shades. It seemed to apply better to my lid, which wasn’t as dry as my arm, though. It lasted decently for eight hours before fading visibly.

Sense (384M)

Sense (384M) is a darker, chocolate brown with subtle, warm undertones that gave it a slightly rosier or plummier tint paired with a metallic finish. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was easy to pick up and to apply to bare skin. It wore well for nine hours before fading noticeably.

Tranquil (385M)

Tranquil (385M) is a muted, medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and a soft, pearly sheen. It had rich pigmentation that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well. The texture was smooth to the touch, not too thick but moderately dense and not prone to fallout. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading.

Calm (386CP)

Calm (386CP) is a medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer but had to be built up for full coverage. The texture was slightly soft and almost sponge-like, so it had some give without being powdery, but felt very powder-like applied and blended out. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Yama (387DC)

Yama (387DC) is a darker gold base with duochrome shimmer that shifted from green to gold that gave it a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was soft, smooth, and more loosely-pressed into the pan compared to most of the shimmer shades in the palette, so there was a slight chance of fallout. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer, which wore well for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Zeal (388CM)

Zeal (388CM) is a dark, olive green with muted, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was slightly thinner compared to other mattes in the palette–not to the point where it inhibited application, as I still found it had opaque coverage that was blendable, but it required a slightly firmer hand when working with it. There were signs of fading after nine hours of wear.
