NARS Bijoux Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

Bijoux

NARS Bijoux 16-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($59.00 for 0.48 oz.) is a new, limited edition holiday release that is the brand’s “biggest” palette yet. The palette contained 10 more shimmery shades and six more matte shades, so it was shimmer heavy. Three of the shimmers were high-sparkle and better suited for someone who likes to apply their sparkly shades with a fingertip and/or with an adhesive base/spray as they could give fallout. The majority of the eyeshadows were semi-opaque to opaque, blendable, and lasted an average of eight hours on me.

Under Your Skin

Under Your Skin is a very light taupe with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was almost cream-like, dense and a little thicker, but it picked up readily with a dry brush and applied evenly to bare skin. It had rich pigmentation that stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

$19.00/0.04 oz. – $475.00 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have “rich, high-impact color” that is “lightweight” and has “increased blendability.” Like most larger ranges, there are winners and losers, and some of how they perform can be related to the type of finish. The mattes are soft, slightly dusty in the pans (or not at all) with medium to opaque, often buildable, color coverage. The satin and metallics tend to be smoother, more blendable, and more pigmented with less effort; NARS does the these lower shimmer finishes particularly well, which just looks “melted” on the skin as they lay down so smoothly and have a great shine.

Most shades applied better on my lid than swatched on my arm, which has been something seen across NARS’ eyeshadows for years and didn’t change with the recent update to their powder eyeshadow formula. On average, they lasted between seven and nine hours on me without primer. They did apply well over primer and stayed on well for 14 hours with minimal fading.

Worth noting: the updated formula and packaging resulted in a product decrease from 0.07 oz. per pan to 0.04 oz. The single eyeshadows received a more noticeable price drop (from $24 to $19) but the duo eyeshadows could be priced better (from $36 to $35).

Devotion

Devotion is a bright, medium-dark copper with strong, warm orange undertones and lighter flecks of gold and copper sparkle throughout. The base was more translucent, so the semi-opaque coverage was definitely coming from the amount of sparkle in this shade.

There was fallout when working with it dry, so I would recommend using it with a dampened brush and/or an adhesive base (like a setting spray) to help keep it in place over time and minimize fallout when initially applying it, too. It wore well for eight hours with some fallout over time.

Fuel the Fire

Fuel the Fire is a sparkling, darker reddish-copper with flecks of lighter gold and pink sparkle throughout. The base seemed more translucent, and it was chocked full of sparkle/shimmer, which was where most of the opacity came from.

There was some slip and glide in the formula, which helped more of the product apply onto the lid with little fallout, especially when applied with a fingertip, but there was some fallout over time. It stayed on decently for eight hours with noticeable fallout over time–a lot less than you’d expect but enough that I think fixing it would be preferred!

Do It Again

Do It Again is a bright, yellowy pale gold with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well. The texture was soft, almost cream-like, and a little thicker, but it wasn’t too firmly-pressed into the pan, so it still picked up readily with a dry brush. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Limelight

Limelight is a light-medium copper base with a heavy dose of sparkle that shifted from warmer pink to peach to yellowy gold. It seemed like a weaker multichrome, and it is the same type of shift I’ve seen from a few brands this holiday season that seem to lean toward making multichromes more mainstream.

The texture was incredibly cream-like and almost left a dent behind when pressed with a fingertip as a result, and this added slip made it best applied with a firm, flat brush or a fingertip to press it firmly against the lid. It had opaque pigmentation and applied similarly dry as well as wet, though it was smoother in thickness when applied with a fingertip. It stayed on well for eight hours with light fallout over time.

Pandemonium

Pandemonium is a light-medium, pinky-purple with warm undertones and flecks of sparkle over a more frosted finish. It had a drier, stiffer texture that was difficult to pick up product with using a dry brush. I’d recommend using a dampened brush, which improved adhesion, opacity, and evenness during application. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that lasted decently for seven and a half hours on me.

Thrill Seeker

Thrill Seeker is a medium, olive green with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a soft, lightly powdery texture that was slightly thinner, so it wasn’t quite as blendable as it could have been. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Dirty Deeds

Dirty Deeds is a muted, medium-dark rosy mauve with soft, warm undertones and a matte finish. It applied darker than it appeared in the pan, and it seemed to turn a little warmer, too. The texture was soft, smooth, and blendable without being too dry or too thin. It had opaque color coverage that stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Get Hot

Get Hot is a slightly muted, medium-dark pink-red with a semi-matte finish. It had rich color coverage with a smooth, lightly emollient texture that had some glide and no powderiness, but it felt a touch firmer in the pan than most of the brand’s matte eyeshadows do so a heavier hand might be necessary. It wore well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Midnight Rider

Midnight Rider is deep forest green with subtle, warm undertones and cooler, fine emerald green pearl throughout. The eyeshadow had intense color payoff paired with a smooth consistency that wasn’t too firmly nor too loosely-pressed into the pan, so it wasn’t powdery but didn’t require a heavy hand to pick up. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.
