You know it’s a Gaurav Gupta creation when it looks like art. Making his mark on the Met Gala 2024 carpet, the globally acclaimed Indian couturier won hearts with his sculpted ensemble adorned by renowned actor Mindy Kaling.
Mindy graced the iconic stairs of Met Gala 2024 looking like a blooming flower. When asked about her ensemble, Mindy made it a point to mention what the exceptional gown was called and shared that the gown is called the Melting Flower of Time. She also explained how the cape resembled a once blossoming flower which now is wilting.
Weaving an interesting story that resonates with the Met Gala 2024 theme ‘The Garden of Time’, which is inspired by J G Ballard’s short story by the same name.
Gaurav took to Instagram and expressed why Mindy was the perfect muse. “Mindy radiates grace, making her the ideal muse for this design. Just as a flower blooms only once before withering away, this gown embodies the transient yet exquisite essence of style. It’s almost like the gown Mindy is wearing melts away in time, evoking a surreal journey through loops of infinity, as represented by our brand logo,” expresses Gaurav Gupta.
The pastel colour palette enhanced with a hint of sparkle made this a one-of-a-kind statement piece that stood out on the Met Gala 2024 carpet. Gaurav Gupta’s ensemble was styled by celebrity fashion stylist Molly Dickson and the placement was done by Hema Bose of Maison Bose.
From florals to archival haute couture, the carpet was graced by an array of celebrities from across the globe such as Alia Bhatt, Chris Hemsworth, Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Lana Dela Rey, Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Law Roach, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Natasha Poonawalla, Isha Ambani, Sabrina Carpenter, Taraji P Henson, Penelope Cruz, Demi Moore, Lily James, Janelle Monae, Lewis Hamilton, Camila Mendes, Sydney Sweeney, and Camila Cabello.
The Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion exhibition will be open to the public from May 10 to September 2, 2024, and will feature approximately 250 rare items drawn from the Metropolis Costume Institute’s permanent collection.
