Let’s travel back in time to the past Met Gala events where Deepika Padukone wowed everyone with her glitz on the red carpet as we get ready for the big night.

The first Monday of May is around the corner, which means that fashion’s biggest event, the Met Gala, is almost here. In addition to being a multimillion-dollar fundraiser, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute benefit is a spectacular costume event attended by celebrities from entertainment, politics, sports and beyond. As we get ready for the big night, let’s go back in time to the moments in Met Gala history when Deepika Padukone dazzled everyone with her glamour on the red carpet.

2017–

Deepika wore an exquisite Tommy Hilfiger ensemble to the 2017 Met Gala. The gown was made of white satin with a plunging neckline, thigh-high slit and long train.

Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between was the 2017 theme.

She completed her ensemble with diamond-studded flowers in her hair and long drop earrings. Her makeup was kept simple, emphasising her innate beauty with a nude lip and delicate eye makeup.

2018–

For the 2018 Met Gala, Deepika wore all red in recognition of the theme of Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination. It was designed by Prabal Gurung, a Nepalese-American designer. The stunning diamond earrings gave a bit of glam, finishing the look with the perfect amount of sparkle.

Her bold and colourful clothing went well with her makeup selections, which included a deep red lip and thick winged eyeliner.

2019–

Immersed in the aura of a life-sized Barbie doll, Deepika’s 2019 Met Gala presentation was her most iconic to date. She wore a customised bubblegum pink strapless gown designed by Zac Posen with 400 pieces of multidimensional embroidery on lurex jacquard. The outfit featured a form-fitting neckline that drew attention to her décolletage and a multi-tiered billowy skirt with subtle embroidery.

Her nighttime ensemble included a towering, voluminous ponytail that complemented her dress, fitting in with the year’s theme of Camp: Notes on Fashion. She accessorised with sculptured earrings and a headband adorned with pink diamonds to fit with her origami-inspired dress.

Meanwhile, the official dress code for the 2024 Met Gala is The Garden of Time, in honour of the Costume Institute’s new exhibition Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
