The February 11 New York Fashion Week debut of Proenza Schouler’s Fall/Winter 2022 ready-to-wear collection came along with the first public appearance of a new lipstick from Merit Beauty. Known as Signature Lip, each of the models wore a different shade of the new lipstick as they walked down the runway.

This “hydrating, buildable lipstick” comes in eight shades: Slip (light beige), L’Avenue (red-brown), Baby (soft pink), Tiger (dark red), Fashion (light berry), 1980 (dark brown), Millennial (bright pink), and Cabo (dark orange). Hero ingredients include squalane, papaya fruit extract, and vitamin c.

Among all the skin-loving ingredients found in this lipstick, squalane is arguably one of the most popular out of the bunch. It’s notable for its ability to lock in moisture, which is why those with dry or mature skin will especially appreciate the benefits of this ingredient. Board-certified dermatologist Samantha Fisher, M.D., previously told Allure that squalane also has the ability to “aid in skin-care problems wherein the skin barrier is disrupted and transepidermal water loss is an issue.” In the case of this lipstick, however, squalane won’t be helping in any skin barrier repair. Instead, it is meant to provide the lips with some “long-lasting moisture.”

On another note, the lipstick is said to have a “soft finish that feels like, well, nothing on the lips,” perfect for those who love a lip color with a soft touch.

Luckily, the wait for Signature Lip to hit stores won’t be too long. All eight of the lipstick shades will be available on sephora.com and meritbeauty.com beginning on February 22 for $26.
