After a noticeable absence from the public eye recently, Kylie Jenner has finally made a striking return at the 2024 Met Gala, radiating elegance and comfort in a white gown with a matching jacket. Her ensemble was so cosy-looking that one could easily drift off to sleep wrapped in that fabric, perfectly aligning with the ‘Sleeping Beauties’ theme of the event. For this year’s Met Gala, Kylie Jenner reportedly drew inspiration from the concept of a garden statue, elegantly manifested in her attire. Alongside her sisters Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, who also made dazzling appearances, Kylie’s choice of outfit was a nod to the evening’s theme.
She donned a custom design by Oscar de la Renta, crafted by the house’s co-designers, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia. The dress, made of double-faced satin in a soft rosewater hue, featured a cone-style bra, a cinched waist and a voluminous trumpet skirt, reminiscent of the garden statues depicted in J.G. Ballard’s short story, ‘The Garden of Time,’ which served as the official dress code for the night, reports Vogue.
This year marked Kylie’s seventh attendance at the Met Gala, and she has consistently made headlines with her stunning fashion choices. In previous years, the Kylie Cosmetics founder impressed onlookers with her unique ensembles. In 2022, she paid homage to the late designer Virgil Abloh with a custom Off-White bridal look, complete with a baseball cap and veil.
Vogue reports that despite facing criticism for her fashion choices, Kylie remained unfazed, particularly when it came to the significance behind her wedding-esque outfit. In a May 2022 YouTube video, she revealed, “To be honest, I decided really at the last minute I wasn’t going to go… I would wear off-white, then that’s the only reason I would go today. To honour him.” Kylie’s dedication to honouring Virgil Abloh, combined with her love for her outfit, shielded her from any external opinions, making the moment even more special for her.
